Description

Oct. 31, 1933. E, MARTIN TOP ROLL CLEARER Filed Dec. 2l, 1932 upon the middle and Patented Oct. 31, 1933 V'ror RoLL CLEARER Edward L. Martin,
H & B American Machine Company,
tucket, n. 1.
Providence, R. I., assignorto Paw- Application December 21,1932 serial Nc. 648,223
This invention relates to top rollclearers for drawing rolls, of the type used in connection with twisting and spinning machines, and the primaryv object thereof is to provide a clearer which can Ybe easily and quickly-,operated in order to render nclearer composed of hinged sections and wherein Vthe front section can be readily moved about the hinge connection to be superimposed upon and thereby supported by, the rear section.
Theinventionrstill further aims to provide a fclearer which is of simple and economical construction, which can be easily and quickly oper-y ated and which is effective in its action.
The invention has still furtherand other objects which will be later set forth `and manifested in the 'course of the following description.
In-the drawing: f
Figure 1 is a partial vertical section of a' spinning or drawing frame having the presentv invention applied thereto: Y
Figure 2 is a bottom plan View of the invention; and
Figure 3 is a section on line 3--3 of Figure 2.
In proceeding in accordance with the present 4invention a front section connected by hinges 2 to a rear section 3. The rear section is of considerably greater width than that of the front section and isformed to seat back rolls M and'B while the section 1 is formed to seat upon the front roll F; The under sides of thesections are hollowed out at 5 and 6 respectively, and the respective sections areformed with longitudinally 'extending lre'rfs '7 and 8 that extend substantially throughout the lengths of the sections and receive therein the longitudinal side edges of any suitable clearer cloth 9 and 10 respectively; The cloth -may'have its side edges glued or lotherwise suit.- ably secured in the kerfs, and the clothfis cut into sections as shown more clearly in Figure 2, with the central portions thereof stretched across the hollowed-out undersides of the sections.
By referring to Figure 1 of the drawing it will be seen and noted that' the ends of' the rear section are formed Withslots 11` for the purpose of receiving ngers 12 provided therefor on the frame of the machine and which project upwardly f from the latter, thus when the rear section occupies its position as shown in Figure 1 in engagement with the middle and back rolls, the entire structure will be held against movement trans- 1 is employed which is.
front section formed to versely of the rolls and also against longitudinal movement, due to the fact, that there is a lcorresponding finger 12 at the opposite end of the frame whichA engages in the slot 11 in the corresponding end of the section 3. The front section is thus held in itsproper position on the front roll and when it is desired to inspect the front of the machine the front section 1 may be readily moved tothe :dotted line'position of Figure 1, about its hinges, and'is superimposed upon the rear sectiony -3 and consequently supported l thereby.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the invention affords a very simple vand economical structure which 'can be readilyY operated with a minimum of time and eifort in order to render the Whole front of the machine visible for the purpose ofinspection.
I Having thus described' my invention what I 'claim as new and desire Patent is Y Y 1. A top rollfclearer including a rear section to secure -by Letters formed to engage the middle and backrolls of a spinning or twisting machine and having aper-` tured partsat each of its ends', a front' section Yhinge to be superimposed'on and supported by the rear'section, and means carried by the frame t to hold the rear section against movement transversely vand longitudinally z of the rolls engaged thereby while permitting free hinging of the front section. v
, 3. A top roll clearerv includingv a rearvsection formed to seat upon the'middle and backrollv of aspinning or twisting machine, an independent seat upon the'front roll of the machine and means'to hingedly yconnect the front section to the back'section, said hingingv means being connected to ythe frontand rear sections so as to render the front section freely movable to lie with its upper I'a'ceiupon and be lief 8611 khinged Ato the rear section to engage the front I roll of Vthe machine' and being movable about the face freely movable to lie upon and be supported es.l
against movement by the rear section in one position thereof, said hinging means being of a length whereby when the front section is in inoperative position and supported by the rear section the front part of the front section will be disposed a substantial distance from the front of the rear section. l
