1 Claim.
This invention relates to a clearer for the top drawing rollers of a spinning frame and has for its primary object to relieve the drawing rollers of lint orwaste accumulations and thus improve the quality of the yarn produced on the spinning machine.
Another object is to effect the clearing of the top drawing rollers of the spinning machine while the latter is in operation and avoid the loss of production time through the necessity of removing the clearer in order to observe the operation thereof and of the top rollers of the drawing frame. 7
The above and other objects may be attained by employing this invention which embodies among its features a slat having notches in opposite ends to receive guides, which project upwardly from opposite end members of the top drawing frame of a spinning machine, rollers detachably mounted on the underside of the slat for engaging the top drawing rollers of the spinning frame and felt sheaths enclosing the peripheries of the rollers for contacting the surfaces of the top rollers of the drawing frame and removing lint, waste and the like therefrom during the operation of the spinning machine.
Other features include forming the slat of a transparent material such as a transparent plastie, and mounting the rollers thereon in such a manner that they may be individually demounted for removing any accumulation of lint or Waste thereon, or substituting a new clearer roller for a worn one.

Referring to the drawings in detail, a spinning machine designated generally 10 is equipped with a conventional drawing head or frame l2 in which the bottom drawing rollers l 4 are mounted. Arranged for running contact with the peripheries of the bottom drawing rollers [4 are top drawing rollers l3 which are mounted in a hinged frame [8 forming a partof the drawing frame or. head of conventional construction. Extending upwardly from the end bars of the top frame l8 are fingers orguides 20v which serve tohold the clearer unit in place on the drawing frame.
The clearer unit above referred to is designated generally 22 and comprises a slat 24 which is preferably formed of a transparent material so that when the clearer is in position on the machine as illustrated in Figures 1 and 2, the top drawing rollers I6 will be visible through the slat. For-med in opposite ends of the slat 24 are notches 26, and these notches are adapted to receive the guides 20 in order to hold the clearer 22 in proper position on the drawing frame l2. Fixed to the underside of the slat 24 adjacent one end thereof is a transverse row of angle brackets 28, each of which is formed with an opening 30 which lies parallel with the longitudinal axis of the slat 24 and each of these brackets 28 serves as a support for one end of a clearer roller to be more fully hereinafter described. Attached to the underside of the slat 24 adjacent the opposite end thereof is a parallel row of transversely spaced brackets 32 each of which is formed with a slot 34 which opens outwardly through its end, and which aligns with an opening 30 in a bracket 28 at the opposite end of the slat 24. Entering the depending legs of each bracket 32 formed by the slots 34 are recesses 36 in which suitable spring pressed retainer balls 38 are mounted to be yieldingly projected slightly beyond the walls of the slot 34 for a purpose to be more fully hereinafter described.
The clearer rollers above referred to comprise a longitudinally cylindrical core 40 which is provided at opposite ends with trunnions 42. These trunnions are adapted to be entered into the openings 30 and the slots 34 beyond the retainers 38 of opposed brackets 28 and 32 so that the clearer rollers will lie in spaced parallel relation longitudinally of the slat 24 as will be readily understood upon reference to the drawings. Encircling the cores 40 of the clearer rollers are tubes 44 of felt or the like which are adapted to engage the peripheries of the top drawing rollers Hi to remove lint, waste and the like from the peripheries of said drawing rollers during the operation of the spinning machine.
In use the clearer 22 is mounted on the drawing frame of a. conventional spinning machine which has been equipped with the guides 20 as suggested in Figures 1 and 2 so that the felt tubes or sleeves 44 contact the peripheries of the top drawing rollers I6. If the slat 24 is formed of transparent material it will be obvious that the drawing rollers and clearing rollers will be visible Without lifting the slat 24 from its position on the head [0. At the same time gravity will urge the clearer 22 downwardly to hold the felt tubes or sheaths into yielding contact with the peripheries of the roller l6 and as the drawing operation takes place it will be evident that lint, waste and the like picked up by the drawing rollers IE will be collected by the felt tubes or sheaths.
While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention it is to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope 4 ted brackets carried by said slat adjacent the other end thereof, felt covered spaced parallel clearing rollers adapted. to engage the drawing rollers, trunnions at the ends of said clearing rollers supported in said apertured and slotted brackets, and resilient means in said slotted brackets for detachably retaining the trunnions received in said slotted brackets. l I
