Description
. 1 Application'June 18, 1929. Se1'ial No.-i371 ;864 1 f:
, 1 Claim. (01. 220-36) suitable groove 20 provided therefor. onfthe inner 4 This invention relates to improvements inmop or broom cleaners, and itis the'principal object of my invention to provide a cleaner in which the mop may be ,freed or all dirt within a closed container. 1 u
Another object of my invention is the provision of a mop cleaner of comparatively simple and therefore inexpensive construction, yet durable and efiicient in operation. r A further object of my invention is the provision of a mop cleaner allowing a reciprocation of the mop within a covered housing and a ready opening and closing of the cover for said housing as well as locking of the cover tion. 7 7
A still further object of my invention is the provision of a mop cleaner having attached to the rear wall of its housing a receptaclefor waste paper etc., which is adapted when not in use to be folded against the rear wall of said housing. t Y
The invention includes also a cleaning implement of peculiar construction within a housing provided with an opening closed by a slide and allowing the ready removal ofthe dirt and refuse.
These and other objects and advantages of 'my invention will become more fully, known as the V rial part of this disclosurei i Fig. 1 is a sectional front elevation of the mop cleaner box constructed accordingto my vinvenedescription thereof proceeds, and'will then be specifically defined in-theap'pended claims.
In the accompanying drawing forming a matetion with the cover open. V
Fig.2 is an'end view thereof. V
Fig.3 is a cross-section on line 33 of Figure 1.
Fig. 4 isan end view similar to Figure 2 however, seen from the opposite. end.
Fig. 5 isa rear view. of my device.
As illustrated, the mop cleaner comprises a to the upper edge ofv the rear wall of which a cover 11 is hinged, as at 12,
The cover carries a handle 13 and at its ends the loops 14 and 15 respectively for a purpose later to be described.
In its open position the cover in heldby a leaf.
ed with its upper edge in suitable guides 19 formed on the upper edge of the front wall of. the box, the lower edge of the member 18 is guided in a' in its closed posiaccumulated of member 29. V
box
face of the box front wall. V
Within the box a cleaner element. 21 composed of a plurality of wire convolutions having upwardly and downwardly directed loops is arranged, the
endsof the wire being formed into feet 22 to support the element 21 in the box spacedfrom the bottom thereof. v
The slide member 18 has formed in its upper edgea recess 23 allowing the passage of a mop or broom handle 24lafter the mop 25 has'beenintro- 1 duced into the box and engaged with the cleaner element and the cover is closed. v
A bracket 26 having an opening 27 formed therein is'attached't'o one of'the end walls of the box and, the end of an operating lever 28is passed through the opening in said-bracket, and formed into a pedal or foot operated member 29.
The other end of lever 28 is guided through the loop 15 and has connected thereto the upper hooked end of a rod or bar 30 adapted to engage I with its upper, angularly bent ends 32 the outer face of cover 11 and vhold'thesame in the closed position of the box against the action of leaf spring 16, extending through a suitableguide 31 formed alongand in the rear Wall of the box and" extending'therefrom at, its opposite end;
This end of rod 230 is upwardly bent and formed into a hook 32 guided through a loop 14 and adapted to engage the upper face of the cover to depress the same upon the depression A. pocket member 33 substantially .V-shaped in cross-section is turnably attached at its lower edge to guide rod 31 and adapted to be guided with its upper rear edge against the'rear wall of box 10 for thereceptionof waste paper etc.
An opening 34 in one of the end walls is adapted to be closed by :a sliding door sliding in suitable guides 36.-
The operation of my device will be entirely clear from the above description and simultaneous inspection of the drawing, and it will be evident that a: pressure exerted on the pedal 29 will unlock the cover 11 which has been held down on box 10 bythe fingers 30, 32 and said cover will spring open under the action of leaf spring 16, when now the mop is introduced into the box Withits handle 24 protruding through recess 23 in slide '18 and thecover is'closed again,
the map can be reciprocated by its handle reciprocating slide 18, so that it is freed by the cleaner 21 from all dirt and impurities adhering thereto. Upon reopening of the cover in the aforesaid manner, the cleaned mop can readily 1 changes in the general arrangement of the cleaner as well as in the construction of the minor details thereof as come within the scope of the appended claims without departure from the spirit of my invention and the principlesinvolved.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to, secure by Letters Patent is:
In a mop cleaner, an elongated box having front, rear and end walls, a single plate cover hinged thereto at its rear edge, a pair, of wire loops formed; at the ends of said cover, an open wire loop guided along the rear wall of said box,
hooks formed at the upper ends of said wire loop adapted to'engage the outer face of said cover to normally keep 'the same closed, an operating lever attached at one end to one of'said hooks, a
pedal formed at the other end of said operating lever, a guide for said operating lever, a leaf spring for keeping the cover in its open position, the front wall of said box recessed, and a sliding member guided in front of said-recess to cover the same, and having an opening formed therewith.
