{/0 fTORNEY Patented Sept. 26, 1933 This invention relates to new and useful im pro'vements in brushes, and constitutes a further improvement'of the invention for which appli cation 'for patent has been filed by me April 9 i 1932', under SerialNo. 604,191.
g The present device'has a wide scope of use, as it may with advantage be employed in connection with bathing, dishwashing, auto-washing; and 'for other similar purposes.
; As the construction is comparatively simple,
I the cost of manufacturing should bejproportion ately lw., I r

Figures 5 and fi show in, detail the inlaid metal-tubes; the one of these .being slightlyvariedin construction frornltheother one, but not in principle. Figure 7 h w a dgewiew, of the end portions of device, which in this case ha's been slightly modifled. 'Figure'S is a cross sectional View of another form of my device; while Figure 9snows a bottom this modification, removed; and Figure 10 .represents a bottom viewoi the removable center part of the brush-device, according to the latter modification; while Figure 11 is a detail view.
10 indicates a preferably wooden member, or block, of any suitableshape, having a substan-' tially fiat bottom surface ll, and with provisions madeat its top, in the form of a recess 12, to engage-a handle. The said block has upon its bottom surface the usual arrang emento'f bristles 13. The block member is formed with a circumferentially cut-out, or reduced portionfl' i of any convenient shape; In the said cut out portion is V mounted a tube 15 of any suitable material and of a form preferably as shown inlthe Figures 5 andfig generally a metal tube would best' serve" the purpose in n' ind'. 4 The said tube rnay eit er. consist of one unit, as shown in Figure 5, wherein one end of .the said tube is closed as at11"6,whi1e the other end is formed with .a rlelongatedarmfl'l- View of the latt er with the sponges, employed in- -R.eferring more particularly to the drawings, 7

'In case the'tube system; shownin; FigureiG-is j j used, all that is necessary is to bore ahole cemtrally through 'the 'woo'den blockmember foriin-gso sertion of the "arm 17 into the annularf member 15.
on top of the annular metal tubejwhenfthe latter has been placed in position in the block membenis nextfarranged a;-rnernber{25 of any 1 Y suitable material, preferably-though a solid, 'semihard rubbermember; the latter'beingsecur'ed to the 'said'block member in any convenient manner,
as'for instance, by 'a'cementing process. The said rubber member 25 is formed with-openings .26' u made to register with the apertures; 20 in the metal tube, when thelatter and the said tube' are arranged inrelative position to one another.
. In order, however, to v derive the best-bossibl'e effect from the said arrangement; the openings of the said rubber 'memb' rhave been" feigned with slightly outwardlytaperedwallsi27 themselves and secured in the said'cut out tionsby wedges 23, asshown'especi'a'lly in Figure. 7 '3; the, said wedge'sbeing; for thispurposefgrmed with aslightly larger bottom portion,whichyi1 i.

I The bristles 13 may, however, also be inserted into the recesses 29 of the wooden block-member, as shown in Figure 7. The bristles arein this latter casebent over the partitions 30, which are formed. by transverse and vertical cut-out portions in the wooden .block -member, as shown also v in Figure '7, while the bristlesare secured in place r is attained;
by a peripheral band 31, surrounding the edge of i the said wooden block; the said band 31 being "shown with'parts broken away in Figure '7.
v In the'modification of my device, as shown in Figures- 8, 9 and 10; a preferably metal frame nected to the ring-member 32 by being'countersunk into rectangular bends formed upon the latter, as shownat 34, whereby a flushouter surface The center portion of the woodenblock member, as formerly described, that, is the portion having the water-discharging arrangement, or
tube-system, with thearea of bristles within the periphery of the said tube, is, in this present modified arrangement of thefeatures constituting my device, made to; form an independent, detachable circular unit-35;; thelatterhas an upadapted to engage the upper edge of the frame or ring-member32, when placed in position, the said unit may be surrounded by a metal ring 37, as shown. The detail arrangementof features of r the saidcircular unit35, or central portion, is
otherwise, as hereinbefore described; the saidunit having in this case, however, a water-spout I 38, as shown in-FigureB, connecting withthe l inlaid water sprinkling system. The transverse bar 33.. ismadejtorest in a transverse groove 39, 1 shown 'in dotted lines, on top of the central- 'blocksmember, orunit; while'ja band 40 of any suitable material is fastened: to each side of, the
ring-member 32-and across the top of the circular unit to permit a varied manipulation of' the device. Ateach endof the said frame structure is de- V tachably' inserted a sponge member [41, which ,under normal conditions protrudes a little b e low the bristles .ofthecentral unit 35, andwhic'h fits; snugly between the said frame member. 32 andthesaid central unit. While the said sponge members on'account their inherent elasticity will be, retained in correctposition in the said frame 3 structure, suitable. means may, however, be provided, if desired,to keep 7 the said sponges solidly in place.
I hile, a "stated in this modification, the central unitnormally is provided with bristles inside of the water-sprinkling tube,the said unit may instead of such bristles have arranged therein a. sponge-member-,-inany suitable manner.
- The portion of the center part,- which contains thebristles, that is'the portion within the water sprinkling. tube, and which is indicated by 42 in Figure 9, may, however, be made as a separate unit consisting of a thin. disk, asshown in Fig-- ure-ll, part thereof being broken away; said f disk may inthis case'befarranged in a depression of a, corresponding dimension formed 'in the said qcentral portion; said depression. being shown by dottedlinesdenotedfi in FigureBj Thepbristles of the center portion. are in this case arrangedin any suitable way in the middle thereof, while The said bar 33 is solidly c0n--- said circularqmember,
I Through this latter arrangement the central bristles may easily be exchanged, when worn out. a 1 j It is obvious that changes may be made in the formjconstruction and arrangement of the several parts, as shown, within the scope of the appended claims, Without departing from the spirit of the invention, and Ido not therefore Wish to limit myself to the construction and arrangement shown and described herein- What I claim as new, and desire to secure'by Letters Patent'of'the United States, is: 1.
