Description

M. P. MOULE. 'BAG-HOLDER..
No. 192,652. 7 Patented July 3, 187 7.
fitness es Inventor MOSES P. MOULE, OF SPAFFORD, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT m BAG-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 192,652, dated July 3, 1877 application filed November 11, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MOSES P. MOULE, of the town of Spafi'ord, county of Onondaga, State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bag-Holders, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.
lhe object of my invention is to afl'ord a means whereby bags of various lengths may be suspended and held for the reception of grain or other commodities, with their bodies resting upon a base, so that in filling the bag the weight of its increasing contents may not be thrown wholly upon the month.
In the drawing, B represents the base of my device. A A are front standards, bent rearward or connected by tie-pieces at the top to the rear standard 0. H H are braces, which at the rear form handles for moving the machine from place to place.
The front standards A A form ways for curved slides U S, the edge of one of which is adapted to be shut down past the edge of the other to clamp a portion of the mouth of the bag and hold it open, following the rearward curve of the said slides or clamps.
In order to bring the slides together to grasp and hold the bag, levers L L, one or more, are pivoted to one slide, and connected to the other by jointed links K K, whereby the working of the lever or levers will move the slides to or from each other and clamp or release the bag.
Besides the movement to and from each other, the slides may be given a movement in unison, whether held together or apart, upon the standards A A, whereby their height may be adjusted to the length of the bag. Upon the standard G, at a point above the reach of standards A A, is a pulley, P, over which is passed a cord attached at one end to one of the slides, and at the other having a weight. By this means the clamps or slides, when applied to the mouth of the bag, will automatically adjust themselves to its length, and the body of the bag will be held sufficiently tense, while the weight of the material it receives will be mainly borne by the base or floor of the device.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination, in a bag-holder, of the slides or clamps U S, ways upon which they may be simultaneously raised or lowered, and operating-levers L, substantially as described.
2. The combination, in a bag-holdcr, of the slides or clamps U S, their operating-levers L, the ways A A, pulley, cord, and weight, substantially as described.
M. P. MOULE.
