Description

Sept. 5, 1933. M. G, GOYENA MATCH CASE OR HOLDER Filed Sept. 8, 1932 Manue] Giarola G'oyna In ven lol By @um we.
' `/Illorncy Patented Sept. 5, 1933 PATENT OFFICE MATCH CASE 0R HOLDER Manuel Garcia G oyena, Manila, P. I.
Application September 8, 1932. Serial No. 632,232
1 Claim.
This invention relates to a match case or holder, the general object of the invention being to provide a strip to which the matches are attached, the strip being folded several times to form a book-like folder from which the matches can be easily withdrawn, with means for igniting the matches as they are so Withdrawn.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the `accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:-
Figure 1 is a view of the strip with the matches thereon before being folded.
Fig. 2 is a View of the complete device.
Fig. 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a View showing how the strip is folded.
Fig. 5 is a top plan View.
As shown in these views, the letter A indicates a strip of suitable material such as light cardboard or the like which is formed with a Wide section 1 and a narrow section 2, with the row of matches A having small portions of their sticks attached to that edge portion of the section 1 which is above the plane of the upper edge of the section 2.
The free end portions of the match sticks project from the section 1 as shown and a narrow longitudinal strip 3 is attached to the upper edge of the section 2 and is formed of material forA igniting the matches as they are drawn across the same. The two sections 1 and 2 are connected together by a fold line 4 so that the section 2 can be folded over upon the match carrying face of the section 1 and then the two sections are folded on the lines 5 and 6 as shown in Fig. 4, to form a book-like holder shown in Fig. 3 as well as in Fig. 5.
(Cl. 20S-29) the section 1, these portions of the section 1 to which the match strips are attached, will lie beyond the edge of the section 2 which places the strip 3 as shown in Fig. 3 so as to facilitate re- 60 leasing of the matches from their points of connection with the section 1.
Thus if an outward pull on the match stick should fail to disconnect it from the section l, as the stick can be moved outwardly which will release it from the section 1 and then it can be drawn from between the folded portions and as it passes from between said folded portions, the head will engage a portion of the strip 3 and thus the match is ignited.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:-
A device of the class described comprising a strip of bendable material and composed of two sections, one section having is upper edge extending beyond the upper edge of the other section, a longitudinally extending row of matches having small portions of their sticks connected to the wide section adjacent the upper edge of said section, with the heads of the matches spaced from the lower edge of said wide section and the free ends of their sticks projecting above the upper edge of said wide section, the narrow section being folded upon the matches at its point of junction with the wide section, said sections being of the same length, a narrow strip of abrasive carrying material fastened to the upper edge of the narrow section and contacting the matches when said section is folded upon the wide section and means for holding the two sections in folded position.
MANUEL GARCIA GOYENA.
A strip 7 is attached to the outer face of the y section 2 adjacent the free end thereof and is passed around the folded portions with the ends overlapping and fastened together as shown in Fig. 2. This strip holds the folded portions in such a manner that as the matches are drawn from between the folded portions, the heads will engage the strip 3 so that the matches are ignited.
By making the section 2 of less width than
