4 Claims. (o1. 102-20) This invention relates to pyrotechnic salutes,
and more particularly to a multiple shot aerial bomb. r The object of the invention is to providean iimproved multiple shot aerial salute in which the individual bombs will be of the same detonation, and which can be manufactured cheaper and with greater facility than articles of this kindhave heretofore been made.
According to the'invention the multiple shot aerial salute comprises a housing member with individual barrels retained therein, a single fuse extending around the bottoms of these barrels, and a charge of explosive mixture contiguous thereto, a salute or bomb, fuse downward, in each of said barrels, and means for closing the upper end of said barrels.
The drawing illustrates an embodiment of the invention, and the views therein are as follows:
' Figure 1 is a top plan view of the housing member showing the barrels and the individual As illustrated in the drawing, the multiple shot aerial salute has a base 11 which is hollowed out to provide an angular flange 12 and into which is glued or otherwise fastened the housing member 13. This housing in the present instance is shown as being round, but it may be of any desired shape. r
Within the housing member 13 is the series of tubes or barrels 14 which are arranged to fill the said barrel without deformation. The base 11 is made of woodor other like material, while the housing member 13 and tubes 14 may be made of rolled paper or pasteboard.
, At a distance from the'bottom of each of the barrels 14 is a disk 16 whilea fuse l7 enters the housing member throughthe opening" 18 and is then laced through the bottom disks 16 in the bottoms of each of said barrels, as shown in Figures 1, 3 and 4. I
The distance between the bottoms of the barrels 14 and disk 16 will determine the spaceof time between the explosions of the successive H bombs, the portion of the fuse 19 necessarily hav- 9 ing to pass from the disk 16, down around the barrels C, D and E1 will be catapulted and exmany ways without departing from the invention herein set forth and hereafter claimed. a
The upper ends of the barrels 14 are closed, as desired, such as by means of the plug 24.
It will be readily seen' that as the outer end 26 of the fuse is ignited (see Figure 1), the fuse will first ignite the explosive mixture 21 in the barrel A, which will immediately catapult the bomb or salute 22 through the upper end of the same, and
into the air, and as the fuse 23 of said salute would naturally be ignited from the explosive mixture 21, the fusewill have burned down into the explosive mixture 27 of the salute when the same is high in the air and the salute will, therefore, explode with a loud detonation.
It will be apparent that the explosive mixture in the barrel A will be ignited when the fuse burns to the point 28 and as the fuse continues to burn through the bottom of said barrel and around through its part 19, (see Figure 3) and to the point 29 (see Figure 1), itwill ignite the .explosive'mixture in the barrel B, thereupon catapulting the bomb or salute from that barrel into the air.
In like manner the salutes or bombs from the ploded.
With a construction of this kind it is unnecessary to make any distinction in the salutes, as to the location of the explosive charge, etc., or in the location and height of ,the explosive charge in the bottoms of the barrels.
The article is easy to assemble and can, therefore, be made at low cost. Of course, the multiple shot aerial bomb illustrated-and described herein may be varied in I claim:
1 A multiple shot aerial salute comprising, a housing member, individual barrels in said housing, a bombin each of said barrels and having its fuse extending downwardly, a fuse in the bottoms of said barrels arranged to successively ignite the 'fuse of said bombs, and explosive mixture in the bottoms of said barrels for catapulting bombs.
2. A multiple shot aerial salute comprising a said "base, a housing member secured thereto, individual barrels in said housing, a bomb in each of said barrels and having its fuse extending downwardly, a fuse in the bottomsof said barrels ar ranged to successively ignite the fuse of said bombs, and explosive mixture in the bottoms of said barrels to catapult said bombs.
