Description
C. G. STROMBERG. DRUGGISTSPRESCRIPTION-FILE.
No. 191,783. Patented June 12,1877.
MPETHs, JNOTO-UTHOGRAPHER. WASHINGTON. D C4 7 UNITED STATEs PATENT OFFICE.
CHRISTIAN G. STROMBERG, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN DRUGGISTS PRESCRIPTION-FILES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 191,77i3, dated June 12, 1877; application filed May 7, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN G. STEoM- BERG, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Druggists Prescription- File Book; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying" drawing, forming part of this specification, in which-'- Figure 1 represents a general plan of a prescription-file book, embodying my invention, when opened. Fig. 2 represents atransverse section of one of the leaves, taken on the line 4:; av drawn through Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 represents a transverse section of one of the leaves detached from the book.
Like letters of reference indicate like parts. i
The object of my invention is to provide a book within which druggists prescriptions may be conveniently filed, and so that any prescription having a given number may be readily and quickly found; and to that end leaves of the book when made double, or
when each leaf is made of one or a single sheet folded at its center, or from two single sheets connected together at their outer edges, so as' to form two parts, a, and a, as shown in Fig. 3. 0 represents a dividing-leaf, which is interposed between the parts a and a. of the respective leaves, and is permanently connected to the back of the book.
Each of the parts a a of the respective leaves is provided with one or more series of horizontal slits, d, out through them, one above the other, asv shown in Fig. 1, and are arranged at a uniform distance one from the other, and are of the proper length to admit of passing the prescription-slip f through them, so as to allow the slip to pass between the dividing-leaf and the part a or a of the leaf proper, as shown in Fig. 2.
In using said book the prescription-slips are first numbered in regular order on the back and below the center of said slips, and each then folded at a point immediately above its said number, and the lower portion of each slip is then passed through one of the slits, and the upper part thereof passed through the slit next above, and so that the numbers of the slips will be arranged centrally between the slits and in regular order from top to bottom of each series of slits, as shown in Fig. 1.
In forming the leaves of the book, I preferably cut two series of slits in each part of each leaf with twenty-five slits in each series,
.so that each part of each leaf will contain fifty slips, and when the book is opened one hundred numbers will be exposed to view, and to enable the druggist to find any desired number or prescription, I number each alternate leaf on the right-hand corner from No. l upward. For example, should No. 420 be wanted, turn to page 5 of the book, where it will be found in the first series of slits at the left hand of said page; or should 1290 be wanted, turn to page 13. where it will be found in the last series of slits at the right hand of said page.
In constructing my said improved prescription-file book I prefer to make the leaves A double, as described; but the dividing-leaf may be dispensed with, and only one of the parts a. or a be provided with one or more series of slits, d.
The leaves of the book may consist only of single sheets, and each alternate leaf provided with said slits, which will produce substantially the same result as the said double and interposed leaves, but more liable to become disarranged.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the parts a and a. of the leaves A B with one or more series of parallel slits, d, and with or without the dividingleaf 0 interposed between the parts a and a, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
- CHRISTIAN G. STROMBERG.
