This invention relates to improvements in lifting and carrying devices.
The principal object of the invention is to provide means for lifting and transport} ing objects which may be engaged by clamps carried at the end of a supporting handle.
A further object is to produce a device which will automatically engage an upstanding part such as the post of a storage batcarrying the battery,

A still further object is to produce a device which will not cut the hand of the user.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the;course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate hkeparts throughout the same,

- In thehandling of storage batteries, it is often necessary to lift them and trans ort them a considerable distance and as the at teries are provided only with their'handles it is often a severe strain upon the person for the reason that the acid used, if the battery is held against the body, will ruin the clothes. {With applicants device the battery may be picked up and ried at the side in the same manner that a suitcase is carried and consequently there is little strain on the user and no liability of ruining the clothes through the battery coming into contact therewith.
In the accompanying drawing wherein for CRT- the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates a battery terminal which is common in all storage batteries, the numeral 6 a handle portion preferably formed '60 of webbing to which areattached end clips 7 and 8. These end clips 7 and 8 pivotally maintain L-shaped members 9 and 11, respectively. As both of these L-shaped members and their attached parts are identical, 65 but one will be described. Referring to Fig. 3, it will be noted that the L-shaped member has a sharpnose 12 and that slidable upon thisL-shaped member is a clamp 13 having an opening 14. t
The result of this construction is that when the clamp is placed over the posts so that the posts extend through the openings 14 in the two clamps, then the noses of the L- shaped member will engage the posts with a biting action, as best illustratedin Fig. 3, and any upward pull upon the handle 6 will increase the gripping action, thus making a secure engagement between my device and the postsof the battery. It is evident that the device may be readily removed from the battery when the same has been placed.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that various changes relative to the material, size, shape and arrangement of parts may be-resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim 1- 1. In a device of the character described, a handle, L-shaped members pivotally secured to the opposite ends of said handles, slidable clamping members carried by said L-shaped members, and cooperating) with said L-shaped members for gripping attery terminals.

a handle, a pair of L-shaped members pivot ally secured to the ends of said handles, each of said L-shaped members having a sharpened nose, a sliding clamp member carried by each of said L-shaped members, openings formed in each of said clamping members whereby a battery terminal extending through said openings will be enga ed by said sharpened noses of said L-shape members when upward pull is exerted on said handle.
