One of the objects of my invention is to provide a dispenser for the dispensing of small food units as oval crackers. My invention is comprised primarily of a base having a bowl superposed thereupon. The bowl having transparent side walls. Slides are associated with the base of the bowl adapted for being manually manipulated and for opening a door to permit the flowing of articles through the door, as opened. Reacting elements are associated with the slide for returning the same to normal position when released. Means are associated with the slides for agitating'the articles to be dispensed and prevent the arching of the articles. A filling top is removably secured to the-top of the bowl.

The primary object of my device is to provide a dispensing bowl suitable for placement upon the tables or counters of eating places'and for the holding of articles, as oval crackers or soup crackers therein, and for the maintaining of the same in a highly sanitary condition and ready for instant use, and from which the articles may be secured by the opening ofa door, or slide.

A further object of my invention consists in providing a simply constructed device comprised of few parts, that may be used for the dispensing of crackers and other articles therefrom by the simple manipulation of a door, or slide, to permit the articles to flow, by gravity, from the bowl.

With these and incidental objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combination of parts, the essential elements of which are set forth in the appended claims, and a preferred form of embodiment of which is hereinafter shown with reference to the drawings which accompany and form a part of this specification.

My devlce 1s primarily comprised of a base 1, a column 2 and a hopper 3, that is superposed the column 2, the bottom is comprised primarily of inclined divisions 3A. A transparent cylinder 4- is superposed the hopper and held thereupon by a rim or latch 5 that upwardly extends from the hopper.

For ornamental purposes rality of metal sections 6 that upwardly extend from the hopper and are secured to the rim 5 upon their lower end, their upper ends act as a support for the rim 7. Lips 8 out wardly extend from the inner peripheral edge 9 of the rim and a filler lid 10 is adapted to the rim. Lips 11 inwardly extend from the outer periphery of the filler lid. The same I provide a plubeing adapted for engaging and being locked relative to the lips 8.

A plurality of openings 12 are disposed through the base of the hopper and a slide 13 is adapted to form a closure for each of the openings. The slide 13 has a hand engaging handle 14 associated with its outer end. To

prevent the arching of the articles to be dispensed, agitating fingers 15 upwardly extend 10 from the top side of each of the slides, the same being adapted to agitate the articles to be dispensed. Guideways 16 and 17 are disposed at either side of the opening and the edges of the slide are adapted for being moved longitudinally of the guides, Shaft support ing lugs 18 and 19 upwardly extend from the base and a journal shaft 20 is journaled therein. A closing latch 21 is disposed in registry with the lower end of the closure 13 and a re- 2 acting element as a coil spring 22 is disposed about the shafts 20 and normally maintain the locking latches 21 in registry and in engage ment with the closure, as theclosure is manually opened. The articles to be dispensed will freely flow through the opening and when a sufiicient amount of material has been secured the closure is released and the locking latch returns the closure to normal closed position.

' Where the device is made as illustrated in Fig. 7 a closure may be placed in either side, or in either end of the base of the same. Where the device is made as illustrated in Fig. 8, but one closure is disposed. in one side of the container. The same being adapted for being placed against the wall, and for having articles dispensed from one side, only of the device. 7

While the form of mechanism herein shown and described is admirably adapted to fulfill the objects primarily stated, it is to be understood that it is not intended to confine the invention to the one form of embodiment herein shown and described, as it is susceptible of embodiment in various forms, all coming within the scope of the claims which fol low.

What I claim is:

1. A dispensing cracker bowl, comprised of a base, a hopper superposed the base, a transparent cylinder disposed upon the hopper and acting as the outer wall for the bowl, metallic side wall members upwardly extending from the hopper and covering a part of the outer surface of the transparent cylinder, a rim disposed upon the transparent cylinder, the rim being spaced therefrom by the metallic members disposed upon the outside of the cylinder and to which the rim is secured, a closure removably securable central of the rim, discharge openings disposed with.- in the base of the hopper, oppositely disposed grooves in registry with the discharge openings, closure elements adapted to slide within 65 the grooves, handles thereon adapted to external manipulation and reacting elements disposed in. registry with the line of travel of the closures and adapted for normally maintaining the closures, closed.

2. In a device of the class described, the combination of a base, a neck upwardly extending from the base, a hopper superposed the neck and formed integral therewith, a transparent cylinder superposed the hopper acting as the side walls for the dispenser, a removable lid superposed the transparent cylinder, a plurality of discharge openings disposed through the base oppositely disposed grooves in registry with the openings, manually manipulative closure elements adapted to slide within the grooves and'close the discharge openings, agitating fingersupwardlv extending from the top side of the closure elements and reacting elements adapted normally to maintain the closure elements in closed condition. a

3. In a device of the class described, the combination of a. cracker bowl having transparent side walls, a hopper comprising its base and a removable lid adapted to the top side of the transparent side walls, one or more openings disposed in the base of the hopper, manually manipulative slides having agitating fingers inwardly extending from the top side of the closures, and arms hingedly secured to the base having reacting elements associated therewith adapted to maintain the slides closed.

In a device of the class described, the combination of a base, a column extending from the base. a hopper superposed'the column, a cylindrical transparent wall superposed the hopper and held thereupon by a latch that upwardly extends from the outer rim. of the hopper, a. rim superposed the transparent cylinder and secured thereto, a filler l d adapted for being removably secured to the rim, openings through the bottom wall of the hopper, guideways disposed at either side of the openings, manually manipulative slides disposed within the guides, said slide having an agitating finger upwardly extending therefrom, and arms hingedly secured to the base, said. arms having reacting elements associated therewith adapted to maintain normally the closed position of the slides.

5. In a device of the class described, the combination of a base, a hollow neck superposed the base, a container disposed upon the neck, a removable top disposed upon the container, the side walls of said container being partly transparent, the bottom section of said container being frusto-conical, with the por tion of the smaller diameter in contact with the supporting neck; discharge openings disposed through the frusto-conical portion, grooves oppositely disposed in registry wit-h the openings, closures adapted to slide within the grooves, agitating elements upwardly and inwardly extending from the closure elements, lation'of the handles adapted for manual manipuclosure elements, arms hingedly secured Within the base adapted to contact the closure elements and reacting elements adapted to c closure eleme ause the arms to maintain the nts normally in closed position.
