SANITARY BOTTLE CAP.
Application filed January 20,1927. Serial No. 162,378.
My said invention relates to a sanitary cap for bottles or other receptacles and itis an object of the invention to provide a cap of this character having means associated therewith by which the cap may be re tained on the bottle while the contents are being poured out, all as will be hereinafter more particularly described and claimed.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which are made a part hereof and on which similar reference characters indicate similar parts, 7
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention,
Figure 2, a side elevation illustrating the application of the device shown in Fig ure 1, and
Figure 3, a side elevation illustrating the position of the parts during the discharge of the contents of the bottle.
In the drawings reference character 10 indicates a bottle cap which'is in the form of an inverted cup and adapted to fit snugly over and protect the mouth of a'bottle 11. A ring 12 of a size sufficiently large to slip over the major portion of the neck of a bottle is provided and such ring is connected by means of strips or straps l3 with the cap 10, such strips extending longitudinally of the bottle and being substantially perpen dicular to the cap and the rim.
iVhile I have shown three straps 12 connecting the cap and band spaced therefrom it will be readily understood that one or more straps may be used, however, three straps render the device sufiiciently strong and do not hinder the discharge of the contents of the bottle.
As shown the cap, ring and connecting strips are integrally formed and this is a very desirable construction, nevertheless they may be formed separately and connected by any desired means;
A combined cap and holder ofthis type may be made of aluminum, tin, paper, wlre, or other material and may contain advertising matter embossed or otherwise provided thereon and forms a useful, sanitary article by means of which a bottle containing catsup or other condiment may be kept covered and the contents of such bottle may be used by lifting the cap slightly from the mouth of the bottle and then pushing it downwardly so that it engages the head around the mouth of the bottle in the position as shown in Figure 3. This prevents the soiling of the table cloth but permits the device to be easily removed and placed on another bottle or if for any reason it is desired to' remove the same from cleaning or the like.
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art that various changes may be made in my device without departing from the spirit of the invention and therefore I do notlimit myself to what is described in the specificabottle, a band formed integrally with said cup designed to fit around the neck of the bottle in spaced relation to the cup, and one or more straps connecting the band and the lower edge of the cup whereby the cup may be lifted from the mouth of the bottle and disposed at one side of the same to permit the contents to be discharged, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination of a cap designed to fit over the mouth of a bottle having atapered neck, a band formed'integrally with said cap designed to fit over the large portion of the neck of the bottle, connecting means between the band and the lower edge of the cap the parts being flexible and permitting the cap to be removed from the mouth of the bottle and spacedat one side of the same so that the contents of the bottle may be discharged, substantially as set forth. 4:; A- combined cap and holder comprising a cup designed to fit over the mouth-of a. bottle, a band formed integrally with said cup designed to fitaround the neck of the body in parallel relation to the cup, and one or more straps extending substantially at right angles and connecting the band and the lower edge of the cup, the parts being flexible and permitting the cup to be lifted from the mouth of the bottle and disposed at one side of the same to permit the contents to be discharged, substantially as set forth.
5. A bottle mouth'cover comprising a cup designed to fit over the mouth of a bottle, means associated with said cup designed to engage the neck of the bottle adjacent the body of the same, said means being arranged to permit the cup to be withdrawn from my hand at Elwood, Indiana this 18th day of January, A. D. nineteen hundred and 1 twenty-seven.
