No. 191,348. PatentedMay 29,1877.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LYMAN P. J'UDSON, OF EAST NEW MARKET, MARYLAND.
IMPROVEMENT lN BARBED FENCES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 191,348, dated May 29, 1877: application filed March 24, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LYMAN P. JUDsoN, of East New Market, Dorchester county, Maryland, have invented a new and Improved Barbed Fence-Strip, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is a plan view, Fig. 2 is a perspective view, and Fig. 3 is a detail view of one of the wire barbs.
The invention will first be described in connection with the drawing, and then pointed out in the claim.
In the drawing, A is a strip, of any suitable metal, in which perforations a are made at such intervals as may be desirable. In these perforations wire barbs b are placed, and by means of suitable tools are bent down parallel to the sides of the strip for a small portion of their length, and then are bent outward at right angles to the strip.
The wire barb is clasped upon the sides of the strip loosely, so that it will yield sufficiently to not tear the flesh of an animal, or draw wool from sheep.
It is obvious that the strip may have barbed points projecting from one or both sides. It is also obvious that the barbs may be fixed in strips of wood or other material; therefore, I do not confine myself to the exact form shown in the drawing, or to the material herein described.
Having thus described myinvention,I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patout- A barbed l'encestrip, consisting of perforated metallic strip A a, and the wire barbs b, the latter passing through perforations ot' the former, and bent to clamp the strip, substantially as shown and described.
LYMAN P. JUDSON.
