DETAGHABLE HOOK Filed Sept. 22, 1932 overcome the problems heretofore encountered in combination devices of the character. referred to, and the invention contemplates a the formation of aquickly attachablehook Patented June 6, 1933 srErANos STAVROU MOUNGELIS, or nnw'rravun. oomrncrronr nnrecrrannn noon Application filed September 22, 1932. Serial noLeseseo'.
This invention relates to combination devices, and more particularly to a hook adapted for the support of various articles in combination with a bottle opener.
It has beenrecognized in the past that a device which could be'quiekly attached to variousarticles to constitute a supporting hook for hats and coats and the like would be highly desirable if it were so constructed as to be carried in the pocket and thereby kept in a devices heretofore constructed have been objectionable either because they were not capable of ready attachment to supporting surfaces or because they were not capable of being folded into a convenient and compact form.
It is an object of the present invention to which is capable of supporting a comparaporting surface. l
The invention further contemplates the formation of a foldable hook which presents no sharp projections when in the folded condition and yet a device of this character which can be readily unfolded to operative position in which form a penetrating member extends therefromand is adapted to be in sorted into a supporting element in a manner. resulting in the projection of hooks for different garments and the like.
It is an additional object of the present invention to provide a device asabove specified which is capable of being utilized for the removal of caps from bottles.
Other objects and advantages will be apfrombottles as illustrated in Fig. 2.
parent when considered in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein? j Fig. his a perspective view of a device made in accordance with the present inventionillustrating it in position upon a Wall for use as a supporting hook;
Fig. 2 illustrates the device of Fig. 1 when folded and inthef-orm forremoving a cap from a bottle;
Fig. 3 is a side view of the device applied toa wall with dotted lines indicating the manner of folding; and j j l Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the device as shown in Fig. 3. i
Now referring to the drawing in detailthe numeral 10 illustrates an arm provided at its extreme end with a curved projectionll terminating in an enlarged portion12. A sharp projection 18 is provided for cooperation with the projection 11 in theremoval of caps At theopposite. end arm 10 's reduced in width asa't'l lso asto accommodate another reduced portion 15 of an. arm 16. The arms as indicated at 17, and the arm .18 is offset from the reduced portion 15 in a manner :to
UNITED STATES PATENT cr'r ci:
"10 and 16 are pivoted at the reduced portions 75 cause the end 18 thereof to abut against the 1 arm 10 when the respective arms are. pivoted :to the position illustrated in Fig. '11. 1 Arm' 16 is curved upwardly at its free endinto a projection 19" which is similar to projection 11 provided'withan enlarged portion 20 at tively heavy weight when attached'to a supitsextremityu- .1 L a Arms 10 and 16; are proportioned with re Y spect to the pivotal? insuch a manner as to permit the arm 16 to closely lie behind arm .into and outof the folded position although they lie in close "contact when folded.
Arranged on the arm 10 at the rearthereof Eand closely adjacent to-"the reduced portion '14 are wings-21 which constitute ahead 1 for a penetrating-element 22. :It is, of course, to he understood that the penetrating element may be of any desired length depending upon the use to which the device is to be put, but I have found that when the penetrating element 22 is angularly disposed fromv the arm 10, as illustrated in Fig. 3 and the device is proportioned as shown, a weight of approximately twenty-five pounds can be safely supported from the projection 11 when the device is mounted upon a wooden support of normal hardness. V
The arm 16 adjacent the reduced portion 15 is provided with a slot 23 which acts to receive the penetrating element 22 when the arms are moved to the folded position and therefore when folded the element is shielded and the device is entirely free of sharp projections.
In using the device it will be seen that the bottle cap remover may be employed when the arms are in the folded position. As the device does not'present any sharp projections it may be readily carried in the pocket. When it is desired to use the device as a hook for supporting garments and the like it is only necessary that the arms be moved to the position illustrated in Fig. 1, and that the penetrating element be forced into a supporting surface whereupon heavier garments may be readily suspended from the projection 11 and a lighter garment such as a hat may suspend'from the arm 16 and its projection 19.
Inasmuch as changes may be made in the construction above set forth withoutdeparting from the spirit of the invention it is intended that the description and accom panying drawing shall be interpreted as illustrative only and not in a limiting sense. It is to be understood that while it is preferred that a penetrating attaching element be utilized other connecting devices may be employed in place thereof when the structure to which the device is to be applied is not capable of being readily penetrated.
What I claim is:
A supporting hook adapted to function as a bottle opener comprisinga pair of arms pivoted to fold in edge to edge relation, one arm having a sharpened projection extending from the edge thereof adjacent one end adapted to act as an attaching element forsecuring the arm to a surface, said arm being formed at its opposite end with a hook for supporting articles when the arm is in an attached position, a sharp projection on the arm above the hook for cooperating with the hook to constitute a bottle cap remover,
the other armv provided with an offset to form hook thereof to overlie the hook of the first mentioned arm when the arms are folded with the hooks in close contact and the hooks being of a length so that the sharp projection lies within a line between the pivot point of the arms and the outer ends of the hooks.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature.

a stop shoulder and being provided also with I a hook at its free end extending outwardly from one edge thereof, said other arm being further provided with a slot opening'away from the surface of the edge from which the hook'extends which slot is adapted to entirely contain the attaching element of the first arm when the arms are pivoted to a folded position, and being of a length to cause the
