This invention relates to the take-up mechanism of a wide loom, by which the cloth is drawn forward as the weaving progresses.
It is the general object of my invention to provide an improved supporting structure for the pressor roll forming an essential part or" certain types of take-up mechanism.
A further object of the invention is to provide a supporting structure for a pressor roll in a take-up mechanism, so designed that the pressure may be readily released to permit removal of the roll from operative position, and also permitting the parts to be conveniently restored to operative position.
My invention further relates to arrangements and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
A preferred form of the invention is shown in the drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a side elevation of parts of a loom embodying my improvements;
Fig. 2 is a front elevation, looking in the direction of the arrow 2 in Fig. l, and
Fig. 3 is a sectional side elevation, taken along the line 33 in Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawing, I have shown portions of a loom side 10, a breast-beam 11 and a take-up stand 12. The usual take-up roll 13 and guide-roll 14 are mounted, in fixed bearings 15 and 16 in the take-up stands 12.
A pressor roll 20 is rotatably mounted in openings 21 in bearing arms 22. These bearing arms are mounted to swing about a fixed axis and are shown in the drawing as swinging about the axis of the guide-roll 14. The outer ends of the arms 22 are offset clownwardly, as indicated at 24, and each arm is provided with an end recess or pocket 25 (Fig. 3) and with an open slot 26.
An eye bolt 30 is provided for each bearing arm 22. These eye bolts 30 are mounted on fixed pivots 32 and may be moved into and out of the slots 26 by swinging movements about their fixed pivots. Washers 33 and coil springs 34 are mounted on the bolts 30 and are retained thereon by adjusting nuts 35.
When the parts are in operative position,
as shown in the drawing, the washers 33 are seated against the bottom surfaces of the recesses 25. The springs 34 thus exert pressure against the arms 22 and force the pressor roll 20 yieldingly against the take-up roll 13. The degree of pressure may be regulated and adjusted as desired by turning the nuts 35 on the bolts .30.
When it is desired. to relieve the pressure on the roll 20 for any reason, such as the removal or replacement of a web of cloth, the bolts 30 are swung downward about their fixed pivots out of the slots 26, and the arms 22 and roll 20 are then free for upward movement away from the roll 13.
The tension on the springs 34 may be somewhat relieved by backing oii the nuts 35 before releasing the parts, it so desired. By reversing the described operations, the roll 20 may be quickly and easily restored to operative position. Both the releasing and restoring operations can be accomplished with very slight loss of time and with very little labor on the part of the operator.
Having thus described my invention and the advantages thereof, I do not wish to be limited to the details herein disclosed, otherwise than as set forth in the claims, but what I claim is 1. In a take-up mechanism, a take-up roll, a pressor roll, pivoted bearing arms for said pressor roll, and tension devices engaging said arms and effective to force said pressor roll against said take-up roll, said tension clevices comprising rods mounted to swing about fixed pivots into and out of engagement with the ends of said tension arms, and means associated with said rods for applying yielding pressure to said tension arms.
2. In a take-up mechanism, a take-up roll, a pressor roll, pivoted bearing arms for said pressor roll, and tension devices engaging said arms and effective to force said pressor roll against said take-up roll, the ends of said arms being slotted and said tension devices comprising rods mounted to swing about fixed pivots and movable into and out of the slots in said ends, springs on said rods engageable with said arms, and means to compress said springs.
3. In a take-up mechanism, a take-up roll, a pressor r011, pivoted bearing arms for said pressor roll, and tension devices engaging said arms and eflective to force said pressor r011 against said take-up roll, the ends of said arms being recessed and slotted and said tension devices comprising eye-bolts mount ed on fixed pivots and movable into and out of the slots, coil springs on said bolts engaging said arms in said recesses, and nutS threaded on said bolts and engaging said springs and by which said springs may be compressed.
