To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELBRIDGE ft. Hora/Ins, a citizen of the United States, residing at WVorcester, in the county of VVorc-ester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Take-Up Mechanism for Narrowam Looms, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a take-up mechanism for narrow ware looms in which cloth or fabric of unequal selvage length is woven. It is customary in such looms to provide a conical or tapered take-up roll by which reasonably uniform tension may be applied to all parts of the woven fabric.
It is the object of my invention to provide improved supporting devices by which a cloth 'roll may be held in operative relation with such a conical take-up roll and by which it may be conveniently adjusted to meet different conditions of operation.
To the attainment of this object, my invention relates more specificially to the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and set forth in the appended claims.
A preferred form of my invention and a slight modification thereof are shown in the drawings in which Fig. 1 is a front elevation of parts of a loom embodying my improvements;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the parts shown in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a sectional plan view, taken along the line 33 in Fig. 2; and
Fig. 4 is a detail front elevation of a modification.
Referring to Figs. 1 to 3, I have shown parts of a loom side 10, a breast beam 11, and a take-up shaft 12 upon which is mounted a conical take-up roll 13. A guide roll 14 on the breast beam 11 guides the woven fabricto the take-up roll 13.
Any usual driving means for the shaft 12 may be provided, the parts thus far described being of the usual type and forming no part of myinvention.
A cloth roll or storage roll 15 is pivotally mounted on arms 16 secured to a cross shaft 17, weights 18 being suspended therefrom when desired. p
The shaft 17 is mounted in bearings in a support 20 pivoted upon a stud 21, fixed in the depending arm 22 of a bracket 23. A bolt or screw 2% extends through a circular opening'in the bracket 23 and forms a pivotal connection between the bracket and the breast beam 11.
A binding screw 25 extends through a segmental slot 26 in the bracket and affords means for securing the bracket to the breast beam in any desired angular position.
With this construction it will be seen that the cloth roll 15 may swing toward or away from the take-up roll about the axis of the shaft 17, and that the roll may adjust itself about a horizontal axis by swinging upon the stud 21. It may also receive an additional adjustment about a vertical axis through angular adjustment of the bracket. 23. It is thus possible to conveniently adjust the cloth roll relatively to the take-uproll to meet any desired conditions of weave or tension.
The str cture shown in Fig. at is identical with that previously described except for the use of a tapered cloth roll 27 in place of the cylindrical cloth roll 15. Under certain conditions it may be found desirable to thus substitute a tapered roll in place of the more commonly used cylindrical roll.
Having thus described my invention, I do not wish to be limited to the specific details herein disclosed otherwise than as set forth in the claims, but what I claim is 1. In a narrow ware loom for weaving fabric of unequal selvage length, a conical take-up roll, a cloth roll engaged and driven thereby, bearing members for said cloth roll, and means to support said bearing members, said means providing for substan tial adjustment of the angle between the axes of said rolls in two directions substantially perpendicular to each other in addition to the swinging movement of said bearing members about their pivot.
2. In a narrow ware loom for weaving fabric of unequal selvage length, a conical take-up roll, a cloth roll engaged and driven thereby, bearing members for said cloth roll, and means to support said bearing members, said roll being movable toward and from the take-up roll and being also adjustable about vertical and horizontal axes relative to said take-up roll.
3. In a narrow ware loom for weaving fabric of unequal selvage length, a loom frame, a conical take-up roll, a cloth roll engaged and driven thereby, arms on which said cloth roll is pivoted, a support on which said arms are pivotally mounted, and a bracket on which said support is pivoted for movement in a vertical plane, said bracket being secured to said loom frame and being angularly adjustable thereon in a horizontal plane.
