IMPROVEMENT IN TACK-HAMMERS.
Specification formingpart of Letters Patent No. 191,136, dated May 22,1877; application filed July 12, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRANK R. GLASGOGK, of Hillsborough, in the county of Highland and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tack-Hammers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction of a tack-hammer, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which represents a side view, partly in section, of my tackhammer.
A represents the head of the hammer, of cast metal. B is a wroughtiron neck, connecting the cast head A-with the cast-iron handle 0, and in the other end of said handle is a steel claw, D.
The hammer is first molded from a complete pattern, when the wrought-iron piece or neck B and steel claw D are laid in the open mold in their respective places. The metal is then run in, making the castings O and A.
The ends of the wrought piece B and claw D are notched, as shown at a a, so as to keep them tight in the castings.
The advantages of this construction are, that the Wrought piece B,being adapted to the part most likely to break, makes a flexible handle. A steel claw can be used without the possibility of its coming out of the handle,
and the head of the hammer cannot come off,
FRANK R. GLASGOOK.
