DISPLAY DEVICE Filed Oct. 12, 1931 Patented May 23, 1 933 WIL BE RT B. RASANSKY, OF MILWAUKEE, 'WISCOIN SIN msrm-Y nnvion Application filed october 12, 1931. Serial No. 568,340.
The invention relates to display devices for contalners such as boxes, crates, and
baskets for fruits or vegetables, or other v goods. t
An object of the invention is to provide a covenforniing display device which can be readily applied to a goods container without theuse of tools and which will recontainer is resting on its side in display position, the device being capable of re peated use and accommodating itself to variations in the size of the containers.
r Another object of the invention is to provide a display device comprising a grillelike container cover having an elastic marginal band adapted to surround the edge portions of a container in tensioned frictionally engaged relation. i A further object of the invention is to provide a display device having grille-forming strips of elastic material, such as rubber, presenting display openings between them. A further object is to provide a display edges and corners, and which will form a guard for the rough and sharp edges and corners oi the container, thus avoiding any injury to the clothes and hands of attend:
container is displayed. a
The invention further consists in the several features hereinafter set forth and more particularly defined by the annexed claims; In the accompanying drawing, Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a display device constructed in accordance with the invention and adapted for use with a rectangular box 10 l' Fig. 2 1s an end view partly in sectlon of a container equipped with the display de- Vice of Fig. 1;
i Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a modified form of display device adapted for use on round container; Fig. 4.- is a side view of a round basket equipped with the display device in Fig. 3, and i V i Fig. 5 is a detail fragmentary sectional 5 a view of another modified form of display tain the goods in the container while the cover which is constructed with smooth ants and customers in the store in which the device as it appears when applied to a container.
Inthe drawing, the numeral 10 designates an endless rectangular band or strap of flat elastic material, such as rubber. The opposite ends of the band 10 are connected by spaced parallel strips 11 of elastic material, such as rubber, forming a grille-like struc' ture, and the opposite sidesof the band may be connected by one or more similarcross strips 12. The band 10 and the strips 11 and 12 arepreferably but not necessarily integrally connected, and in some instances the strips 11 and 12 may be elastic only along portions of their lengths andfparts of the strips may be relatively rigid. I
In the construction of Fig. 2, the display device of Fig. 1 is applied to a rectangular container 13 holdingtruit or other goods. The device forms a cover for the open side of thecontainer and the band 10 surrcunds the marginal portionsfof the container adj acentits open side and trictionally engages the outer walls of the container under ten sion, thus retaining thedevice in position. The grille portion of the container prevents the fruit or other goods from falling out of the container when the container is set on iftsside in display positioinand the openings in the display device permit the fruit or other goods to be effectively displayed. The elastic character of the strips 11 and 12 permits them to yield. outwardly under the pressure of the fruit or other goods, and there are nosharp rigid corners which lnightcause bruisingbf the fruit. The tension on the grille- thrilling strips 11 and 12 may be ad justed byvarying the position of the band with respect to the adjacent edge of the container.
The modified display device shown in Fig. 3 includes an endless circular band portion 1100f elastic material, such as rubber, con-i nected by grille-forming strips 111 and 112 of elastic material which are connected thereto as in the device of Fig. 1. p The device of Fig. 3 is adapted for usewith; a
round-mouthed container, such as the conical basket 113 of Fig. 4. The band 110 of the circular device surrounds and friction ally engages the marginal portions of the basket, and the grille-forming strips 111 and 112 retain the fruit or other goods in the basket when it is rested on its side in display position.
The modified form of display device shown in Fig. 5 includes an endlesselastic band 210 connected by grille-forming strips 211 and 212 of elastic material which at their ends are flush. with the edge of the band. When the device is applied to the'con commodated within limits because of the flexible character of the band. The device can be used repeatedly and no tools are necessary for either applying or removing the device. The display device also forms a guard protecting the sharp and rough corners and edges of the container, so as to avoid injury to the clothes and hands of attendants or customers in stores in which the containers are on display. The grilleforming elastic strips are under sullicient tension to maintain them against lateral displacement in their plane, but they may be urged apart manually to permit the removal of articles from the container. After such manual displacement these strips will spring back to their normal positions. The construction of the display device is such. as to avoid interference with stacking of the containers, or placing them side by side in close relation.
What I claim as. new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A display device for a container, comprising a cover portion for said container through which articles therein may be viewed, and a flat elastic band connected to said cover portion and adapted to surround and frictionally engage the container.
2. A display device fora container, comprising a flat elastic rubber grille-like cover portion, and an elastic rubber marginal container-engaging band connected to said cover portion.
3. A display device for a container, comprising a cover for said container through which articles therein may be viewed, and a fiat elastic rubber band connected to said cover and adapted to surround and frictionally engage the container.
4. A display device for a container comprising a cover grille having elastic deformable'parts yieldable outwardly by abutment connected and'both formed of elastic rubber.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature.
WILBERT B. RASANSKY.
