Description

L. JUST BATHING SUIT May 16, 1933.
Filed Nov. 21, 1932 ilzw ATTORN EYS Fntentecl lele' id, @333 if; SKATES PATENT QFFICE ma @YP HEW YORK N. Y ASST-GRUB TO THE B. Vs D. comm, m8, @3 m YGRK, H. Y, A GQBPOB'ATION 01E DELAWARE na'rms SUIT Application filed Iovember 81, 1888. Serial No. 6433M,
This invention relates to bathing suits of the one-piece style, and is concerned more particularly with a one-piece suit of novel construction which is of attractive appearonce, afiiords the necessary protection to the wearer while giving the desired exposure of the back, and can be worn with comgflete comfort and without binding because cerw tein features of adjustment incorporated in it. t
The new ment includes trunks, a shirt,
and a to w ich covers the front of the body only an is provided with extensions over the shoulders and side extensions under the arms. At the back the trunks and shirt terminate at the waistline and the back of the wearer is fully exposed except for certain straps. There are two of these straps each connecting a shoulder extension to a slde extension and thus defining arm holes which are preferably uite large. Another part of straps are atta&ed to the top of the rear art of the trunks to extend upward thererom and, when the suit is put on, each of .thme straps is led up beneath one of the,
connecting stra and passed through an arm hole, the i rieends of the two straps losing then hrought to ther atthe middle of the hack and tied. i he pull of these straps on those which connect the extensions causes the front of the garment to be drawn and held closely about the body of the wearer and the straps attached to the trunks are sunficiently long sothat they provide a considerable degree of adjustment in the tightnem of the front-of the suit.
The new garment includes various featum of novelty in addition to those mentioned, which will be pointed out in the detailed description of the invention to follow.
For a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the aeeom panying drawing, in which,
Fig. l is a view of the new perspective and in use;
Fig. Q is a back View;
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view on W the line of Fig. 4;
garment in Fig. 4 is a back view of the garment with a ortion of the skirt broken awoay" and ig. 5 is a back view of a m form of construction. Referring to the drawing, the garment is illustrated as comprising a skirt and trunks 11, the trunks being attached to the skirt rtlon along the front of the waistline bly suitable stitchin 12 and, if desired, to t e top rear part 0% the skirt portion by a short stra 12' which ma be of elastic material. T e suit also inc udes a top which may conveniently consist of an integral portion 13 of the skirt which extends upwardly from the front and terminates in a point at 14, and a pair of ieces 15 attached to the converging edges 0 the top, each of these pieces being provided with an extension 16 to pass over the shoulder and a side extension 17 yssing beneath the arm. m There is no hac portion to the top of the arment and the back of the wearer is thus y exposed except for certain stra In the garment Illustrated in Fig. feach shoulder extension 16 is connected to the side extension 17, on the same side of the garment by a connectin strap 18, the two extensions and the stra efining an enlarged armhole. There are also two straps 19 connected to the top of the trunks at the rear on opposite w sides of the middle of the waistline and extending upward therefrom and the straps 19 are to be passed beneath the connecting straps 18 and fled together When the tying straps are assed through the armholes and the free on of the tying stra s brought together atthe middle or the bee and tied, the pull of the tying straps draws the connectmg straps 18 toward each other across the back of the garment and this causes the front of the garment to be wrapped closely about the body of the wearer, the tying straps being suficiently long to permit a considerable variation in the tightness of the fit.
In the construction illustrated in Figure 5, the connecting straps l8 connect a shoulder extension 16 at one side of the t to the side extension Not the opposite side, and in this style of garment also, each tying strap 19 is passed henenth 9, connecting strep and the ends of the tying straps brought together. The connecting straps of this gas ruent ore suficiently ioose to permit the gerrnent to he readily put on end taken chi, and the tying straps were not provided, the point of crossing 013 the connecting straps wouid tend to he high up the heck. This would moire the front or the garment fit the wearer iocseiy end the suit would have on unettrective eppenrnnce.
in tooth forms of the garment, it will he ohserved that the top edge 20 at the rear of the trunks iies siightiy heiow the top edge 21 of the skirt, end the pieces 15 are prefernhiy formed with darts or pieots 22 to cause these pieces to fit the figure cioseiy. instead of forming the top of the garment oi the pointed npword extension from the skirt and the two pieces 15, it will he understood that the top may he s singie piece extending upward from the front of the waistline. The construction illustrated is preferred, however, hecsuse it gives the garment e nester appearsnce end hotter tit.
in the construction illustrated in Figure 2, the strains 18 connectingthe extensions 16 end I]? are untwisted, white in the term iiiustinted in Figure 3, esch of these straps is given e twist. "tVith the istter arrangement, the tying strep inches so smooth contsct with the connecting strep at the iniddie or the twist.
