My invention relates to attachments for telephones. A principal object of the invention is to provide an attractive advertising means for telephones.

Another object is to provide a simple, detachable advertising medium for such purpose.

A further object is to provide means for cleaning the dial of an automatic telephone without retarding the operation of same.

A still further object is to use the advertising medium for holding the cleaning means in an operative position.

In the drawing, Figure 1 is a plan view '15 of the base of an automatic telephone.

Figure 2 is a partly broken elevation of the dial and associated parts, looking the direction of the arrow A of Figure 1.

Figure 3 is a face view of the present device.

Figure 4 is a bottom view of the present device.

Figure 5 is a section taken on the line 55 of Figure 3.

Like reference characters in the several views indicate similar parts. The reference numeral 6 designates the base of an automatic telephone. The standard of the telephone is shown in section at 7. Wires leading to and from the telephone are indicated at 8 and 9.

The base has a raised portion 10 that carries a fixed dial 12. The rotary plate commonly used on automatic telephones is i shown at 13. As indicated in Figure 2, the

plate 13 rotates in a plane spaced from the dial.

The plate has finger openings 14. Characters 15 on the dial are visible through the openings 14. A finger stop 16 is fastened to the dial member 12.

On automatic telephones, the rotary plate commonly has a space, between the end and the beginning of the series of {inger openings, that is not utilized. The present device is intended to occupy this space.

The present device comprises a face or body member 17 that carries an advertising card or display space 18. An advertisement is shown at 19. A spring clamp 20 member is formed on the face member 17 to cooperate therewith and to clamp the device on the .rotary plate 13.

The face member 17 is curved to conform with the contour of the plate and has curved indentations 21 atthe ends to avoid interfering with adjacent finger openings. The face member has tongues 22 that maybe bent through the adjacent finger openings of the plate and bent against the under side of the plate. The tongues are bent along the dotted lines 23, shown in Figures 8 and 4, to the positionsshown in Figures 1 and 2.

The face member carries one or more cleaning attachments, such as brushes or wipers 24 that are disposed to brush oit the dial lightly to keep same clean. -T he brushesare disposed in the space between the plate and dial. The engagement of .the' brushes with'the dial is so light that it does not interfere with the rotation of the plate Bent back ontheunderside of the face are" arms 25, each of which is stamped to form a channel 26. The brush or wiper 24 is inserted inthe channel and the sides thereof arethen crimped together to hold the brush in place. Two arms 25 and associated brushes 24 are shown on the face member 17 in the drawing.

The bends 27 that connect the arms 25 with the faceinember engage the edge of l the rotary plate.

The use of the invention is thought to be I easily understood. The device is slipped on the rotary plate until the bends 27 engage the edge of the plate. 2 y p The face member may carry advertising matter, as stated. The device is clamped 011 the rotary plate by the spring clamp 20 and held in place by bending, the tongues 22 to the positions described andshown in Figures 1 and 2. During rotation of the-plate 13, the brushes 24 continually clean the dial.

The present device does not in any way interfere with the operation of the telephone and yet serves a valuable dual purpose, to wit, it furnishes an advertising medium and cleans the dial.

What I claim and desireto secure by Letters Patent is: I

1. An attachment for automatic telephones having a dial and a rotary plate having finger openings, comprising a body member having tongues in the finger openings, and a clamp disposed to cooperate. with the tongues to hold the body member on the rotary plate.

3. The combination of an apertured rotary plate of an automatic telephone and an attachment therefor comprising a body member for normally exposing to. view advertising matter between apertures in said plate, the ends of the body member being curved around adjacent apertures, and means cooperating with said plate to hold the body member in said position.

4. The combination of an apertured rotary plate of an automatic telephone and an attachment therefor comprising a body member for normally exposing to View advertising matter between apertures in said plate, the body member having means inserted in the apertures to hold the body member in the desired position.

5. The combination of a rotary plate of an automatic telephone and an attachment therefor comprising a body member, for normally exposing to view advertising matter upon the upper side of the rotary plate, the body member having a clamp extending around the edge of the plate and clampingly engaging the under side of the plate to hold the body member in position.

6. The combination, with the fixed dial and the rotary plate of a telephone dialing mechanism, of a dial cleaning attachment mounted on saidplate for movement therewith; said plate having spaced finger openings and said attachment comprising a display member overlying a portion of the exposed face of the plate, a Wiper element contacting with said fixed dial, attaching means extending from the display member through one of saidopenings and means securing the wiper to said member.

7. A dial cleaning attachment adapted to be mounted on the rotary, finger-holed plate of a dial telephone, said attachment comprising a display member adapted to overlie :1. portion of the normally exposed face
