Description
L. w. HEMP & s. KNIGHT.
v TEA-CADDIES. No. 190,584.
Paten;ed-May 8,1877.
INVENTORS:
ATTESTII UNITED LEWIS W. HEMPAND SAMUEL KNIGHT, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI; SAID KNIGHT ASSIGNOR TO SAID HEMP.
IMPROVEMENT IN TEA-CADDIES Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 19068 1, dated May 8, 1877; application filed December 8, 1876. v
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, LEWIS W. HEMP and SAMUEL KNIGHT, both of the city and county of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements a vertical section. Fig. 3 is a vertical section,
showing the position of the sliding partition when discharging the contents of the showcase. Fig. 4 is a vertical section, showing a door adapted to close a discharge-aperture at the bottom of the show-case.
My improvement consists in constructing a caddy with an inclined show-case, located in the upper part of the front of the caddy, an inclined partition to direct the contents to the rear of the case, and a forward extension at bottom, covered by a suitable door. The back of the show-case is so constructed as to permit the contents of the show-case to be dumped into the caddy proper.
A is the back, B the bottom, and O O the sides of the caddy. The bottom extends forward in an extension, I), in advance of the main. part of the front, the sides also extending forward at that part, as shown. The bottom is turned up in front at b, and to this part the bottom of the door D is hinged said hinge being shown at d. d is the door-knob by which it is pulled open. The door, when closed, is inclined backward, so as to remain shut by its own weight. Above the door is the central perpendicular part E of the front,
and above this the front is formed of an inclined plate of glass, F, secured in any suitable manner. Behind the glass F isthe back G of the show-case, which forms at that place the front of the main cavity H of the caddy. This back is made to slide up, as shown in Fig. 3, so as to discharge'the contents of the show case into cavity -H.
As a modification, the back G may be fixed as shown in Fig. 4, and may have an aperture along the bottom, closed by a sliding or hinged oor.
I is an inclined partition, secured to the front plate E and sides 0, but notextending either to the back A or bottom B, so that an aperture, K, is left beneath the lower edge just suflicient to allow the proper quantity of material to flow into the extension I), from which it is taken by the scoop. L is the lid, which is hinged to the back, and which, when down, extends over and closes both the main cavity H and the show-case F G.
We claim l. As a new article of manufacture, the improved caddy constructed with inclined back G, glass F, inclined partition I, extension I), and door D, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination, with the caddy, of the inclined show-case having a sliding bottom or back, G, to allow the discharge of the contents into the main cavity of the caddy.
