Description

C. I. HALE.
ROTARY cHURN. No. 190,581. Patented May 8,1877
N. PETERS, PHOTO-UTHOGRAPHER. WASHINGTQN. D. C.
OHESLEY I. HALE, OF BETHANY, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOB OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO DAVID N. ASHMORE, OF SAME PLAGE.
IMPROVEMENT IN ROTARY CHURNS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 190,581, dated May 8, 1877; application iiled April 1o, 1817.
To all 'whom it may concern Be it known that I, GHnsLEY I. HALE, of Bethany, in the county of Moultrie and State Of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ghurns; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and'in Which- Figure l is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 a cross-section.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
This invention relates to certain improvements in churns; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully shown and described.
In the drawings, Ais the body of the churn, which may be of any suitable shape and construction, consisting, preferably, of an Ordinary wooden keg Or stone (or earthen) jar. B is the cover, which is made of wood, and arranged to fit closely On top of jar. A. The cover B has a rigidly-secured downward-projecting frame, C, which fits inside the body of the churn. D D are the beaters `or stirrers, which here take the place Of the ordinary reciprocating dasher. These consist of strips of metal bent into the shape shown in the drawing, and pivoted in the cover, and in thek bottom of frame C. The beaters D have flat sides e e, in order to operate more eifectively.
To the ends of beaters D, which project up through cover B, I secure pinions a a, gearing with each other. One of these engages with a cog-wheel, F, the shaft of which,f, is ar. ranged in suitable bearings on top of the cover. G is the crank by which it is operated.
From the foregoing description, the Operation and advantages of my improved churn Will be readily understood. By turning the crank G the beaters D are rapidly rotated, thus whipping and cutting the cream with good effect. After the butter has come, the cover B is lifted off, when the butter may be easily taken out Of jar A, the beaters being 'attached to the cover.
The general construction of my improved. churn is simple, cheap, and efficient.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- The cover B, having downward-projecting rectangular frame G,fpivoted beaters D, provided With pinions a and operating cog-wheel F, in combination with the churn-body A, substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my Own I have hereto aiixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS M. BONE, JOHN 0. WALKER.
