lhis invention relates to an improved accessory or device primarily adapted for feminine use, and particularly constructed as a retainer or holder for a group of shoulder straps such as are provided on present-day undergarments and lingerie.

I am aware of the fact that many different kinds of retaining clips and similar holders have been devised for this purpose. In order to devise a comparatively refined and improved structure, I have discovered an ideal and simplified arrangement of structural features carefully selected and organized to provide a single unit which will not only hold the shoulder straps in group relationship but will securely anchor the straps to the outergarment or dress as the case may be.

In carrying the principles of this invention into actual practice, I have evolved and produced an appreciable contribution to the trade and the art which is ideal for the purpose, excellent in nature, and unusually handy in accomplishing the desired results.

Other features and advantages of the invention will become more readily apparent from the following description and drawing.

In the drawing Figure 1 is a longitudinal section through a fragmentary portion of the dress or outer garment showing the manner in which the improved device shown in elevation, is effectively secured in place.

Figure 2 is an enlarged elevational view with portions broken away to disclose otherwise concealed details.

Figure 3 is a bottom plan view of the device.

To begin with, I call attention first to one of the fundamental details of the assembly which is here shown in the form of a bendable or pliable carrier strip 4. This is of general rectangular form and of appropriate longitudinal and transverse dimensions and in practice is made from celluloid rubber or of the dress to which the device is for attachment. I r

At its opposite ends the strip is formed with slots 5 and 6. On its underside and at one end the celluloid strip is provided with a headed stud 7 forming one of the elements of a quick separable fastener, this being located adjacent the slot 6. v 1 Ifnext call attention to a shoulder strap retaining ribbon 8 which is ofa color to correspond with the strip 4 and which is see cured at one end by a suitable clip 9 to the intermediate portion of the top' face of the v carrier strip 4. This tab carries the socket member 15 o-fthe fastener which is designed for separable connection with the stud 7 V The portion 10 of the ribbon, together with the backing strip 4 defines a loop-like designed hanger through which the shoulder straps (not-shown) are passed in the usual way.

I next call attention to the attaching ribbon 16 which is of a length greater than the strip 4 and which has its end portions threaded downwardly through slots 5 and 6 and extended beyond said slots to permit the terminal ends 17 and 18 to be permanently stitched to the seam of the dress or outergarment 19 as seen in Figure 1. As this device will be found very practical to be made and adapted in house dresses, aprons, or garments of washable material, the vital point in using suchcompositions is that the entire accessory may be left sewed in these housedresses or aprons while washed or ironed, and will not effect its construction or removal from dress or apron.

The ribbon may be made of various grades, rib, smooth, or of a material to be adapted to give best resultswhen undergoing a washing or ironing. The main object of this invention is to be specifically recognized as a permanent dress or garment accessory.

It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent. It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.

I claim: e

1. As a new article of manufacture, a shoulder strap retaining device comprising a resilient carrier strip, an attaching ribbon connected thereto, said ribbonhaving its opposite ends arranged to permit sewing of said ends tothe dress, a retainingribbon secured to said strip at one end, and separable fastening means on the free end of said second ribbon and corresponding end of said strip.

A multiple strap holder of the class described comprising an elongated strip of pliable material formed at one end with a. transverse slot, a strap retaining ribbon secured at one end to the intermediate portion of said strip, having its intermediate portion passed through said slot, a tab secured to the free end of said ribbon, a socket fastener member carried by said tab, a headed retaining' stud carried by one end portion of said 5o strip for co-operation with said socket mem- 115 ber, and means for attaching said strip to the dress.
