This invention relates to receptacles. It is particularly directed to a water-tight receptacle for cigarettes, a lighter and the like articles, in the form of a bathing suit accessory.

An object of this invention is to provide a receptacle of the character described having means for simultaneously opening the same and partly ejecting the cigarettes or other articles therefrom to permit ready removal of said articles for use.

Another object of this invention is to provide a neat, compact, and rugged device which shall be comparatively inexpensive to manufacture, easy to manipulate, and which shall yet be positively water-tight, and practical and efiicient to a high degree.

Other objects of this invention, will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.

The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements', and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described, and of which the scope of application will be indicated in the following claims.

In the accompanying drawing, in which is shown one of the various possible illustrative embodiments of this invention.

Referring in detail to the drawing, 10 designates a receptacle embodying the invention in the form of a water-proof cigarette case adapted to be-used by bathers and for the like purposes. Said receptacle comprises generally a container 11 having a cover 12, and a frame member 13 provided with mechanism 14 for clamping said cover on said contamer to render the latter water-tight.

Said container 11 comprises a front wall 15, a rear wall 16, side walls 17. and a bottom wall 18. The cover 12 is hinged to the rear wall 16 adjacent the upper edge thereof, and is provided with a flange portion 19 adapted to recelve the upper edge portions of

As shown in Figs. 4 and 5, in the open position of the container, the cigarettes 28 and lighter 29 are normally partlally ejected by the leaf spring 27 so that a cigarette and the lighter may be readily removed for use. Said mechanism 14 comprises a pair of similar plates 40 pivotally connected to cars 36 at the interior surfaces thereof, by pins 41. Said plates 40 are rigidly interconnected by a handle bar 42 for actuating the same, and are further provided with cammed slots 43 adapted to receive and coact with inwardly extending pins 44 projecting from upstanding cars 38. The wall 35 is thus moved into very close and tight fitting position over the cover 12, the necessary slight movement being made possible because of the flexibility of the thin plate metal of which the frame is constructed and also by the cut away portions 46 in sidewall 37 which add to the flexibility of the parts. 4

The assembly of the container with the frame and the manipulation of the actuating mechanism 14 for sealing said container will now be apparent. With the handle bar 42 lifted as shown in Fig. 4 the container 11 is positioned so that the extending .flange 20 thereof engages the inwardly bent portions 34 of back plate 32. In this position, it will be noted that the cover is swung open and the holder 20a is partly ejected by the spring 27. To seal the container, it is first pushed against the frame to the position shown in Fig. 7, the container pivoting about its flange 20 during this operation. It will be further noted that during this operation the bar 42 and wall 35 bear against the cover 12 which in turn transmits force thru plate 25 which acts as a strut for pushing the hd der 20a further into the container 11 a ainst he pressure of the leaf springl 27. Obviously, the reverse operations are necessary to open the container for usingthe contents thereof. The handle is first lifted to relieve the pressure from the cover 12, and the container is then removed from the frame. This may be done by grasping the sides of the container with one hand while holding the frame with the other, and then pulling the container outwardly. The container will then swing about its flange 20 back to the position shown in Fig. 4. Upon separating the container from its frame, the holder member, cigarettes, and lighter will automatically be ejected, and the cover 12 will simultaneously be forced open by the plate 25, due to the action of spring 27 and the hinge spring 26 which acts on plate 25.

It will be noted that the plate 32 is slightly wider at its upper portion to provide pockets 50 on each side of the receptacle for receiving the plates 40 and pins 41, 44. Further,

The back wall 32 may. be provided with a pair of'outwardly bent loops 51 adapted to receive a bathing belt 52 or the like, for carrying the receptacle while bathing. It will thus be seen that there is provided a devicein which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.

As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as var'ous changes might be made in the embodiment set forth, it is tobe understood that all matter herein set forth, or shown in the accompanying drawing is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limit ng sense. 7

Having thus described my invention I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters ing said portions together, said means comprising a plate pivoted to one portion of said member and having a cammed surface adapted to coact with another portion of said memher.

In combination with a container hav'ng an extending edge portion adjacent the bottom wall thereof, a cover for the top of said container, means for clamping said cover to said container, and means for automatically opening said cover upon releasing said clamping means, said clamping means comprising a frame member having a hinged portion detachably pivoted to said edge portion, a portion adapted to engage the top of said cover and means for drawing said last named portion down against said cover and retaining said cover in said downward position.

In a water tight receptacle, a container, a cover therefor hinged thereto, means for clamping said cover on said container, saidmeans comprising a removable frame having portions pivotally engaging said container and a portion slidably engagin said cover, respectively, and means for rawing said portions together.

In a water tight receptacle, a container, a cover therefor hinged thereto, means for clamping said cover on said container, said means comprising a removable frame having portions adapted to engage said'container and said cover, respectively, and means for drawing said portions together said last mentioned means comprising a cammed member pivoted to one of said portions anda pin cooperating with said member attached to said other portion.

A water tight receptacle comprising in combination, a container, a cover hinged to said container and means for clamping said cover to said container, said means comprising a member having a portion adapted to engage the bottom of said container and a portion adapted to slidably engage said cover, said portions having extensions adapted to be disposed on both sides of the container, a pair of members hinged to the extensions from one of said portions and formed with cammed slots, pins on the extensions from saidother portion projecting into said slots and a bar interconnecting said hinged members whereby movement of said bar downwardly against the front face of the container will cause pivotal movement of said pivoted members and drawing together of the extensions on one portion toward the extensions on said other portion for clamping said cover to said container.

A water tight receptacle comprising, in combination, a container, acover hinged to said container, and means for clamping said cover to said container, said means comprising a member having a portion adapted to engage the bottom of said container and a portion adapted to slidably engage said cover, said portions having extensions ada ted to be disposed on both sides of the container, a pair of members hinged to the extensions from one of said portions and formed with cammed slots, pins on the extensions from said other portion projecting into said slots and a bar interconnecting said hinged members whereby movement of said bar downwardly against the front face of the container will cause pivotal movement of said pivoted members and drawing together of the extensions on one portion toward the extensions on said other portion for clamping the said cover to said container, and means within said container for automatically opening the cover upon removing said member from said contalner.

In a water tight receptacle, in combination, a container, a cover therefor, means for supporting articles within said container, resilient means for moving said support for 5 partially ejecting said articles from said con tainer, spring hmge means on said su port for opening said cover, and means for 0 amping said cover on said container, said last mentioned means comprising a removable frame having. a portion engaging said container and a portion engaging said cover and ineans for drawing said portions towar one another.

13. A water tight receptacle comprising a container, a cover therefor, means for clamping said cover to said container for closing the same, an article holder within said rece tacle, means on said holder' for' automatic 1y opening the cover upon unclamping said clamping means, said clamping means comprising a detachable member having a portionplvotally engaging said container and a portion slidably engaging said cover.

14. A water tight receptacle comprising a container,acover therefor, means for clamping said cover to said container for closing the same, an article holder within said receptacle, means on said holder for automatica 1y opening the cover upon unclamping said clamping means, said clamping means comprising a detachable member having a portion pivotally engaging said container and a portion slidably engaging said cover, and a member pivoted to one of said portions hav- I ing cam means engaging the other of said portions for drawmg said portions together.
