My invention relates to pipe-straightening apparatus, and the objects ofmy invention are: Y Y r First, to provide an apparatus of this class which: is particularly adapted for straightening bent or twisted .pipe butwhich structuraliron with other cross sections;
Second, to provide an apparatus of this class which is particularly rugged and sturdy of construction adapted to Withstand considerable abuse and be used in exposed places;
Third, to provide an apparatus of'this class in which the force of the two clamping jaws on said apparatus increases as they approach each other; I
Fourth, to provide an apparatus of this class in Which one of the clamping jaws is provided with a slightly yieldable face which allows forthsl'ight resiliency of the pipe or other material being straightened; and
Fifth, to provide an apparatus of thisclass which is durable, eflicient in-its action and which will not readilydeteriorate or get out oforder. I
.With these-and other objects in view as will appear hereinafter, my invention consists of certain 'novel features of'construction, combination and arrangement of parts andportions as will be hereinafter described in detailand' particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the characters of reference thereon which-form a part of this application, in which: i a

Mounted upon the rails 2 are wheels 3 which 5 are connected in pairs by means of axles 4.
The wheels 3 are adaptedto support the side members desi nated 5a of the carria e frame 5; Said carriage frame is rectangular and the side membersv 5a are disposed'flush 7 with the side members 112 of the body frame. . A driving screw 7 extends across the body frame and carriage frame and is supported at its extremities by means of bearings 8 .secured to the side members 1a. One end of'the '85 driving screw protrudes from its bearing 8 and is provided with a pinion gear 9 which is driven by a spur gear 10 which in turn is ear portion 12a.

The other two pairs of link members 13, disposed between the driving'screw 7 and cross members 50, extend towards each other and are connected attheir adjacent-ends-to a bearing lug 15a extending laterally outwardly from a clamp jaw 15. The clamp jaw is'in the form of a rectangular block of material provided with a channel 15b in its lower side adapted to receive the guide member6.; The side of theclamp jaw 15 facing the cross member 50-forms one face of the pipe straightening clamp. The cross member 50 forms the other jaw of the clamp and the side thereof toward the clamp jaw 15 may be provided with a clamp aw facing 16 in the form of a block of wood or other slightly yieldable material. a a
The face of the clamp jaw 15 is provided with a semi-cylindrical groove 150 which preventsthe pipe from twisting out of the'clamp jaw as well as preventing undue flattening thereof. When it is desired to straighten angle iron, the clamp jaw shown in Fig. 5 is used. This clamp jaw is similar to the above structure except that a slot 15d adapted to receive one angularportion of the angle iron is provided in place of the groove 150.
Though I have shown and described a particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions, I do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement, but desire to include in the scopeof my invention the construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent is:
1. In a pipe straightening apparatus, a rectangular fixed frame, a rectangular carriage frame reciprocally mounted in said fixed frame, including end portions protruding above said fixed frame, one of said end portions forming a clamp jaw, a second clamp jaw provided with a groove for receiving work, a screw member extending across said one side, and screw and link means supported fromsaid fixed frame for simultaneously shlftlng said carriage 1n one direction and sa1d minor clamp jaw in opposlte dlrection.
3. In a pipe straightening apparatus, a fixed frame, a carriage frame reciprocally supported thereby including a major clamp jaw forming an end of said carriage and disposed above said fixed frame, and a guide extending at right angle to said clamp jaw, a minor clamp jaw slidable upon said guide and providedwith a work receiving'groove in one-side, its facebeing smaller than said major clamp jaw and disposed opposite the central portion thereof, a screw member extending across said carriage frame and supported from said fixed frame, traveler membersasso-ciated with said screw member, and links extending from each of said traveler members to said carriage frame and said second aw. v p
4:. In a pipe straightening apparatus, a fixed rectangular frame, a rectangular carriage frame reciprocally supported thereby provided with a major clamp jaw forming one end of said carriage and disposed above said fixed frame, wheels supporting said rectangular carriage, a guide secured to said carriage extending across the middle thereof longitudinally and at right angles to said major clamp jaw, a relatively narrow minor clamp jaw provided with a work receiving groove in the side facing said major clamp jawslidable on. said guide, a screw member extending across said carriage frame and supported from said fixed frame at its ends, traveler members associated with said screw member, and links extending from each of said traveler members on opposite sides of said screw member, the free ends of said links on one side connected with said minor jaw and the free ends of the other links connected with said carriage at the middle portion thereof, whereby said carriage isshifted in one direction and said minor clamp jaw is shifted in the opposite direction and said-clamp jaws shifted towards each other.
5. In a pipe straightening apparatus, a fixed frame, a shiftable carriage frame, wheels upon which said shiftable carriage is supported, tracks therefor, a clamp jaw carried by said carriage frame extending laterally across said frame at one end, a second relatively narrow clamp jaw shiftable'with respect to said carriage frame and first mentioned clamp jaw, andscrew and link means for shifting said clamp jaws in opposite directions.
6. In a pipe straightening apparatus, a fixed frame, a shiftable carriage frame, wheels upon which said shiftable carriage is supported, tracks therefor, a clamp jaw carried by said carriage frame extending laterally across said frame at one end, a second relatively narrow clamp jaw shiftable with respect to said carriage frame, a screw member extending across said carriage frame and supported from said fixed frame, traveler members associated with said screw member, and links extending from each of said traveler members to said carriage frame and said second jaw.
