ADJUSTABLE DOOR CATCH Filed Jan. 22, 1932 j Z /3 Invenlor ,/Illomey y lil Patented Mer. 7, 1933 tren RAYMOND F. RIFFLEfOF GREENSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA ADJUSTABLE DOOR CATCH Application filed January 22, 1932. Serial No. 588,206.
rIhis invention relates to a catch for door locks7 and in accordance with'the present invention, while the improved catch may be used in architectual wor-li where hinged doors are used7 it is particularly adapted for use in the building of automobile bodies. My im proved door catch is constructed so as to be readily adjusted to positively secure the door against rattling.
Further, my improved door catch will be found simple to construct, easy to operate and also very substantial and serviceable.
The invention together with other objetand advantages will be better understood from a study of the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a plan view of the catch.
Figure 2 is a side elevation view thereof.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional elevational View therethrough.
Figure 4c is an elevational view` of one end of the catch.
Figure 5 is an elevational view of thefre-` f spaced parallel guides 7 connected at one end by a transverse stop flange 8.
Constrained to shift longitudinally of the plate 5 is a catch member 9. As shown, the
catch member 9 is of the double wedge typeA presenting on the front face or side thereof corresponding beveled or inclined 4surfaces 10 separated by the transverse keeper shoulder 11. j
On the beveled faces thereof the catch member 9 is provided with diagonal lubricant grooves 12 crossing one another as they proceed inwardly from the corners of the beveled portions of the catch f The catch 9 is shifted relative to the plate 5 and is secured at the desired adjustment through the medium of an adjusting screw 13 that is threadedly engaged with a longitudinal socket 14 provided in the body of the catch member 9. The shank of the bolt adjacent its j headed end is journaled in an aperture provided therefor in the transverse stop 8, and the bolt is held against longitudinal movement by reason of the stop 8 being received between the head of the bolt and a lock nut 16 threadedly engaged with the bolt.v Manifestly, by rotating the screw 13 the catch member 9 will be shifted longitudinally of the plate 5, the desired adjustment of the catch being thus obtained in order to have the door latch properly engage the member 9 to prevent any rattling or loose movement of the door when closed. The member 9, will be secured at its adjusted position, by reason of the fact that subsequent to the positioning of the catch member 9 the lock nut- 15 is screwed relative to the bolt 13 in binding contact with the flange or stop 8.
Even though I have herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention7 it is to be understood that I reserve the right to make all such changes to which l am entitled, l intending in nowise to limit the invention beyond the requirements of the prior art or the scope of the appended claim. f
What is claimed is ln a door catch, a bolt keeper comprising a substantially broad flat plate having on one side thereof spaced parallel side flanges and an end flange connecting the side flanges at one end thereof said side flanges having upper edge portions disposed at right angles to the bodies of said side flanges, a double wedge i keeper constrained to shift longitudinally of said plate and provided on opposie sides thereof With longitudinal grooves receiving the aforementioned edge portions of said side flanges, said keeper having an aXial threaded socket extending inwardly from one end thereof, an adjusting screw rotatably supported on said end flange and having threaded engagement with said socket; and said keeper having tvvo inclined faces each of Which is provided With intersecting diagonal lubricant grooves.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
RAYMOND F. RIFFLE.
