CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING SET PACKAGE Filed June 18, 1931 IN V EN TOR.

CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING sin: PACKAGE Application filed .Tune V18,
rl`his invention relates to Christmas tree lighting set packages and the like articles.
An object of this invention is to provide a package of the character described having highly improved means for carrying the lamps of a Christmas tree lighting setandfor attractively displaying the'same.
A further object of this invention is to provide a neat, compact and strong package ofthe character described which shall comprise comparatively few and simple parts, easy to assemble into a package, which shall be relatively inexpensive to manufacture, attractive in appearance and practical and efficient to a high degree.
Other objects 'of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out. A
The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction herein-A after described, andi of which the scope of application will be indicated in the following claims. Y
In the accompanying drawing7 in which is shown one ofthe various possible illustrative embodiments of this invention,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a package embodying the invention with the outer cover removed; u
l Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 2 2 of 1; and A Fig. 3 is a top plan view of a blank forming part of my invention.
Referring now in detail to the drawing, 10 designates a Christmas tree lighting set package embodying the invention. As is well known such sets usually comprise eight miniature lamps 11 connected in series circuit by wiring' l2 and provided with a quick detachable attachment fitting 13, the lamps and the fitting usually being sold to the retailer in a boX. u
For attractively displayingV the lamps, as well as housing the same, the package 10 comprises a boX 15 having a case portion 16 and a cover 17. The case 16 and cover 17 may be of usual construction, said case being formed with a bottom wall 18 and side walls 19; and
1931. Serial No. 545,187.
the cover being providedI with a top wallv 20 and side walls 21 frictionally fitting over the said side walls 19.
' For supporting the lamps within theboX 15, there is provided an Vinsert member 23, preferably made of a single piecev of sheet material such as' cardboard or paperboard forming a blankl 24 shown in Fig. V3L The member 23' is formed with side wall 25 fric- Y tionally contacting the inner surfaces of the said side walls 19, and an outer wall portion 26 parallel to and spaced from said top wall 20. Extending'from said wall 26 are rearwardly extendingtabs 27 preferably formed from the material of said` wall and bent back- (l5 wardly. The outer end portions 28 of said tabs 27 are bent substantially at right angles about creased lines 41 for contacting the inner surface of said bottom wall 18 to retain vsaid tabs 27 against movement. "Each of said tabs 70 is Apreferably formed with a round opening 29Vof sutticient diameter to permit the base of the lamp bulb 30' to pass therethrough. Each bulb 30 of the lamps 1l is screwed to its vsocket 31, whereby the lamps vare attached,75
to the tabs 27 and are thus maintained in substantially parallel relation with respect to said wall 26. Preferably the shape of each tab 27 is similar to the longitudinal, crosssectional shape of the lamp bulbs 30 so that 80 upon pushing the tabs rearwardly, the openings 34,.formed in the wall portion 26 and through which the lamp bulbs maybe seen, will be of similar shape.
In the form shown in the drawing for the purpose of illustration only, the lamp bulbs 30 are bell-shaped and hence the tabs 27'are likewise bell shaped, so as to provide bell shaped openings 34 through which thek similarly shaped lamp bulbs may be seen upon removing the cover 17. The wall portion 26 may also be formed withl slots 35 adapted to receiveportion of the rims 36 of the lamp sockets therethrough.V
The frontface of said wall portion 26 may 95 be' decorated as with a representation of a church steeple whereby theklamp bulbs give the appearance of the bells for said Steeple. Since the tabs 27 may move slightly due to the natural resiliency of the cardboard or paperboard'of which the blank Qlvis made, the lamps l1 will assume slightly varying positions and thus enhance the appearance of the package, since swinging bells are thus simulated.
InV making the device, the blank 24 is' Y' stamped to provide the openings 36 and is formed with outlines 40 and with creased lines ll to form tabs 27 and to permit the portions 28 to be bent as shown in Fig. 2.
Obviously any suitable Ydecoratively shapedv Y ily assembled into the package which is effective for housing and attractively displaying the lamps. The lamp obviously maybe readily disassembled by merely .unscrewmg the bulbs: from the sockets.
, lIt will be noted that in accordance `with this invention, the complete lighting set is displayed and supported by the inserted member itself in a .highly decorative and ornamental manner, and a dominant feature of the invention resides in the fact that with the construction described, it is possible to have a complete decorative unit embraced in the insert itself and the latter together with the lamps assembled thereon maybe removed from rthe box and suspended for display in a window or on a tree or any other way, so'as to vcomprise a complete Christmas or other festival decorative unit. I
It will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and which is well 'adapted to meet the conditions'of practical use. v
As various possible embodiments might be made of thevabove invention, and as various changes might be Inade'in the embodiment above set forth, it is to beunderstood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawing is -to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:`
