5 Claims.

This invention relates to decorative illuminated devices, such as: Christmas wreaths and the like.

An object of this invention is to provide a device of the character described comprising a 5 wreath member having highly improved means for supporting a candle simulating member.

A further object of this invention is to pro- 7 vide a neat and attractive decorative unit of the character described, which'shall comprise com- 13 paratively few and simple parts, be relatively in expensive to manufacture, easy to assemble, and

withal practical and efficient to a high degree.

Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.

The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described,

and of which the scope of application will be inif} dicated in the following claims.

Referring now in detail to the drawing, l designates a decorative illuminated device embodying the invention. The device I0 comprises a frame i I, preferably made of a single piece of m wire, having an annular portion I2 formed with a small loop 13 at the top. The frame portion I2 is split at a point diametrically opposite the loop l3, the ends of said annular portion having substantially contacting extensions I4 at right .17; angles to the plane of said frame portion.

or the like material. The member 23 is pushed downwardly over the member [6 whereby the hooks H slide upwardly, pressing against the inner surface of said member. After the member 23 has been placed on the members E6 the same is held thereon by contact of said members and by the hooks I! which dig into the inner surface of said member. An upward pull on the member 23 merely serves to cause the hooks IT tofurther dig into said inner surface thus preventing removal of said member.

Said member 23 is open at both ends and fitted into the upper end thereof is a lamp socket 22 carrying a preferably miniature tapered lamp 23. The wiring 24 for the socketZZ extends through the lower end of the member and carries a plug 23 at the end thereof.

Helically wrapped around the frame portion I2 is a piece of chenille 33 completely covering said frame portion. Attached to the front face of the frame portion I2 is a decorative member 3| described in detail hereinafter.

The member 3| may comprise a sheet of cardboard 33 of any desired decorative contour, for example, a Christmas bell with a suitable legend thereon such as Merry Christmas in stencil form. To the front face of the member 33 may be applied tinsel 34 or any other decorative coating material. As shown in the drawing, the member 33 has a large number of cut-out spaces and is formed with a portion 31 having an opening 38 adapted to register with the opening in loop I3 of the frame II. Attached to the rear surface of said member 33 isa sheet of translucent or transparent colored material, for example, cellophane. The sheet 35 may be seen from the front through the cut-outs in the member 33. Said member 3| is preferably substantially of the same height as the frame and upon attaching said member to the frame the portion 31 at the top covers the loop I3 and the opening 38 registering with the opening in said loop. The bell-shaped member 33, furthermore, has a central portion M! at the bottom disposed adjacent the portions [4 of the frame II for the purpose appearing hereinafter.

For attaching the member 3! to the frame, a piece 42 of chenille having a twisted wire core, is passed through the opening 38 and loop l3 and twisted for holding the portion 37! substantially against the loop l3. Said piece of chenille 42 also forms a loop whereby the device It! may be hung on a hook. Another piece 44 of chenille having a twisted wire core is passed around the portion of the member 3|, and portions [4 of the wire frame I! and twisted for attaching the bottom end of the member 3! to the wreath. The member M is thus firmly attached to the front of the wreath. The sheet 35 is perforated where the pieces of

42 and 44 pass therethrough.

The lamp 23 is located substantially in the center of the wreath and behind the member 3!. When the lamp is illuminated the colored sheet 35 with the light directly therebehind, gives a highly attractive visual effect.

It will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.

As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiment set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawing is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A device of the character described comprising a frame made of a single piece of wire having a split annular portion, a pair of contacting portions extending from the ends of said annular portion perpendicularly to the plane of said annular portion, and parallel portions extending from said contacting portions, and disposed in a plane parallel to the plane of said annular portion, and hooks on said parallel portions, and a tubular member receiving said parallel portions, the ends of said hooks engaging the inner surface of said tubular member, a lamp socket mounted on the upper end of said tubular member and adapted to receive a lamp therein whereby said lamp will be disposed centrally of said annular portion and spaced therefrom.

A Christmas wreath comprising a frame made of a single piece of wire having an annular portion with a loop at the top and being split at the bottom, portions extending from the split ends of said annular portion radially inwardly with respect to said annular portion and formed with downwardly inclined hooks at the upper ends thereof extending in opposite directions, a tubular member on said radial portions, the inner surface whereof is contacted by said radial portions and books, a lamp socket mounted on the upper end of said tubular member, wiring attached to said socket extending through said tubular member and out of the lower end thereof.

A Christmas wreath comprising a frame made of a single piece of wire having an annular portion with a loop at the top and being split at the bottom, portions extending from the split ends of said annular portion radially inwardly with respect to said annular portion and formed with downwardly inclined hooks at the upper ends thereof extending in opposite directions, a

tubular member on said radial portions, the in ner surface whereof is contacted by said radial portions and hooks, a lamp socket mounted on the upper end of said tubular member, wiring attached to said socket extending through said tubular member and out of the lower end thereof, a sheet member lying against said annular portion of the frame and having an opening registering with the opening in said loop, and means extending through said registering openings for attaching said sheet member to said frame.

A device of the character described comprising a frame made of a single piece of wire havin a split annular portion, a pair of contacting portions extending from the ends of said annular portion perpendicularly to the plane of said annular portion, and parallel portions extending from said contacting portions, and disposed in a plane parallel to the plane of said annular portion, and hooks on said parallel portions, and a tubular member receiving said parallel portions, the ends of said hooks engaging the inner surface of said tubular member, said frame being formed with a loop, and a sheet member lying against the annular portion of the frame and having an opening registering with the opening in said frame, a flexible member extending through said registering openings for attaching said sheet member to said frame at one point and a second flexible member disposed about said por- 1 tion of said sheet member and about said contacting portions for attaching said sheet member to said frame at another point.

5. A device of the character described comprising a frame made of a single piece of wire having a split annular portion, a pair of contacting portions extending from the ends of said annular portion perpendicularly to the plane of said annular portion, and parallel portions extending from said contacting portions, and disposed in a plane parallel-to the plane of said annular portion, and hooks on said parallel portions, and a tubular member receiving said parallel portions, the ends of said hooks engaging the inner surface of said tubular member, said frame being formed with a loop, and a sheet member lying against the annular portion of the frame and having an opening registering with the opening in said loop, and a portion adjacent the contacting portions of said frame, a flexible member extending through said registering openings for attaching said sheet member to said frame at one point and a second flexible member disposed about said portion of said sheet member and about said contacting portions for attaching said sheet memher to said frame at another point, and a piece of chenille wound helically about the annular portion of said frame for covering the same, said flexible members comprising chenille having twisted wire cores.
