This invention relates to decorative illuminated devices.
An object of this invention is to provide a device of the character described, which shall be ex- \treme1y cheap t0 manufacture, comprise few and vsimple parts. be easy to yassemble and which shall yet be attractive in appearance and practical and efficient to a high degree.
Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.
The invention accordingly consists in the fea.- tures of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts which will be exempliiied in the construction hereinafter described, and of which the scope of application willbe indicated in the following claims. In the accompanying drawing, in which is shown one of the various possible illustrative embodiments of this invention,

Referring now in .detail to the drawing, 10 designates a decorative device embodying the invention, here shown for the purpose of illustration only in the form of a cross. The device 10 comprises a frame or a flat sheet of relatively stiff card-board in the shape of a cross and ,formed with a plurality of spaced openings 12, each provided with an eyelet 15. Extending through each eyelet 15 is a lamp socket 16, the mouth or rim iiange 17 whereof contacts said eyelet. The sockets all extend in the same difrection, having the mouth or rim flange portions thereof at the front of the frame 11 and extending rearwardly thereof. The sockets 16 mayl be soldered, as at 18, to the eyelets 15 or xed thereto in any other suitable manner. l
Wiring 20 interconnects all of the sockets in series circuit, thev end sockets of the series pneferably being next to one another and at substantially the middle of the cross. The wires which connect sockets not adjacent to one another may be passed underneath other wires to retain the former against the rear surface of the frame. The card-board frame 11 may be pro- (Cl. 24U-10) vided with a pair of small, closely spaced openings 21 and 21a at about the middle thereof and between said end sockets of the series, and the wires attached to vsaid end sockets unite to form a duplex cable 22 passing through the opening 21 60 from the rear of the frame to the front thereof, and then. through the opening 21a again to the rear. A combination plug and socket attachment member 24 may be attached to the end of the duplex cable 22.
Covering the frame 11 and the wiring, is a box 25 preferably made of relatively soft card-board or paper. 'I'he box may be made of two blanks 26 and 27 properly creased for folding as described hereinafter. The blank 26 comprises a 70 rear rectangular section 28 adapted to cover the rear of the horizontal portion of the frame 11. Extending from the ends of the sections 28 are end sections 29 from which there extends aps 30. 'I'he sections 29 are adapted to be folded about 75 crease lines 31 to cover the end edges of the horizontal portion of the cross-shaped frame. The tabs 30 are foldable about crease lines 33, for the purpose hereinafter appearing.

'Ihe sections 35 and 36 are separated by a slit 90 37 to facilitate assembly. Rubber bands or strings 40 may be wound about the folded portions of the blank 26 to retain it in folded position. 'I'he blank 27 is provided with a central vertical, rectangular section 41 adapted to contact the rear of the vertical portions of the frame 11, said sectionl41 crossing the section 28. Extending from the upper and lower ends of the section 41 are sections 42 adapted to cover the top and bottom edges of said vertical portion of the frame 11. Extending from said sections may be folded on adapted to be folded beneath the folded frontsections 47. The flaps 43 are adapted to be folded beneath the overlapping sections 47 and 49.
Rubber bands,l strings or the like members 50 may be wound about the top and bottom vertical portions of the cross to retain the folded portions of the blank 27 in folded position. Instead of using rubber bands, the flaps may be glued to adjacent portions of the box. The front sections 35, 36 and 47 are provided with openings 51 registering with the mouth openings of the sockets 16, and lamps 52 such as miniature decorative lamps may be screwed to the sockets, the base portions of said lamps passing through said openings 51. The rear section 41 of blank 27 is formed with an opening 55 registering with opening 21a, and with a slit 58 connecting said opening 55 with a side edge of the section 41 between the sections 44 on one side of said section 41. The duplex cord or cable 22 may pass through the opening 55 to the exterior of the box. In assembling the device the cord 22 ispassed through the slit 56. from a side edge of the section 41.to the opening 55.
The folded box may be covered with a silk chenille or other decorative cord 60 wound about the entire box to cover the same. The chenille cord also preferably covers the ends of both the vertical and horizontal portions of the cross so that the soft card-board box, for the frame 11 is entirely hidden. The portions of the'chenille cord covering the ends of the box are preferably pasted thereto.
The upper end of the section 41 and the section 42 adjacent thereto may be formed with small openings 63 for receiving a flexible loop 64 whereby the cross may be suspended.
Instead of covering the box with chenille, the same may be covered with a foil wrapper; or glue may be applied to the-outer surfaces of the box and tinsel sprinkled on the glue for covering the entire box with said tinsel.
Although the device is shown as being crossshaped, it will be understood that said device may be of any suitable decorative shape.
It will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.
As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various 'changes might be made in the embodiment set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth, or shown in the accompanying drawing, is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a decorative device, a frame. screw shells mounted on said frame, a box made of foldable sections enclosing said frame and shells and having openings registering with the mouths of said shells, and lamps screwed to said shells, the bulb portions of saidlamps being disposed on the out-1k side of said box. 2. In a decorative device, a fiat insulating frame, screw shells mounted on said frameand extending rearwardly therefrom, a box made of foldable sections enclosing said frame and shells.

3. A decorative device comprising a flat, relatively stiff member made of insulating material and formed with a plurality of spaced openings, sockets extending through said openings, said sockets being interconnected by wiring, a box recelving said member and encasing said sockets and wiring, said member contacting a wall of said box, and said wall having openings registering with the mouths of the sockets, and lamps screwed to` said sockets.
4. A decorative device comprising a flat, relatively stiff member made of insulating material and formed with a plurality of spaced openings, sockets extending through said openings and fixed to said member, said sockets being interconnected by` wiring, a folded box receiving and encasing said member, sockets and wlring, and having openings registering with the mouths of the sockets. lamps screwed to said sockets, and a vchenille cord wound about said box for covering the same and aiding in retaining same 'in folded condition.
5. A decorative device comprising a flat sheet of relatively stiil' card-board formed with a plurality of spaced openings, eyelets attached to said sheet of card-board at said openings, lamp sockets. extending through said eyelets and soldered thereto, saidv sockets being connected by wiring in series circuit. a box made of relatively soft card-board covering the rear, front and side edges of said member, said box covering the rear of said sockets and wiring,land having openings registering with the mouth portions of said sockets, and lamps screwed to said sockets 6. A decorative device comprising a flat sheet of relatively stifi' card-board formed with a plurality of spaced openings, eyelets attached to said sheet of card-board at said openings, lamp sockets extending through said eyelets and solderedl thereto, said sockets being connected by wiring in series circuit, a foldable box made of relatively soft card-board 'covering the rear, front and side edges of said member, said box covering the rear of said sockets and wiring, and having openings registering with the mouth portions of said sockets, lamps screwed to said sockets, and a decorative covering on said box to aid in retaining said box in folded condition.
7. In a decorative device, a flat sheet of stiil w insulating material formed with a plurality of spaced openings, eyelets attached to said sheet at said openings, sockets extending through said eyelets and having the mouth portions thereof contacting said eyelets, each of said sockets extending rearwardly of said sheet. wiring at the rear of said sheet interconnecting said sockets in series circuit, said sheet being formed with a pair of closely spaced openings, and the wires extending from the end sockets of the series Joining to form a duplex cable, said cable beingthreaded through said last mentioned pair of openings, and an electrical attachment iltting attached to the end of said cabl 8. 9. In a decorative device, a flat sheet of stiff insulating material formed with a plurality of spaced openings, eyelets attached to said sheet at said openings, sockets extending through said eyelets and having the mouth portions thereof contacting said eyelets, each of said sockets extending rearwardly of said sheet, wiring at the rear of said sheet interconnecting said sockets in series circuit, said sheet being formed with a pair of closely spaced openings, and the wires extending from the end sockets of the series joining to form a duplex cable, said cable extending through said last mentioned pair of openings, and an electrical attachment tting attached to the end of said cable, a foldable box formed of suitable sheet material covering said sheet, sockets and wiring, and having an opening for receiving said duplex cable, a. plurality of openings registering with the mouth portions of said sockets, lamps screwed to said sockets, and a chenille cord wound about said box to aid in retaininglsaid box in folded condition.
10. In a decorative device, a sheet'oi' insulating material formed with a plurality of spaced openings, sockets extending through said open. ings, each of :said sockets extending rearwardly of said sheet, Wiring interconnecting said sockets in series circuit, said sheet being formed with an additional pair of spaced openings, and the wires extending from the end sockets of said se-4 ries being threaded together through one of said pair of openings from the rear to the front of said sheet and also threaded together through the other of said pair of openings from the front to the rear of said sheet, and an electrical at tachment fitting attached to said wires.

A decorative device comprising a. flat insulating member formed -with a plurality of spaced openings, sockets extending through said openings and interconnected by wiring, and a foldable box encasing said frame, sockets and wiring, said box comprising a bottom section, side sections, end sections and a top section, said top section being formed with a plurality of spaced openings registeringwith the openings in said insulating member, and means for retaining said box inl folded condition.

A decorative device comprising a crossshaped insulating member, sockets mounted on said member interconnected by wiring, and a foldable box encasing said frame member, sockets and wiring, said foldable box being made from two blanks of cut, creased and folded sheet material, one blank being folded to encase the vertical portion of said cross-shaped frame, andthe other blank being folded to encase the horizontal portion of said frame and openings in said blanks registering with the mouths of said sockets.
