DECORATIVE DEVICE.

This invention relates to decorative devices. More particularly, it is directed to an ornamental unit for use in connection with decorative lighting outfits such as used in dressing Christmas trees and the likedecorative or display purposes.

An object of the invention is the provision of an improved unit of the character described comprising few and simple parts which are cheap to manufacture, neat and attractive in appearance, and practical and efficient to a high degree for the purposes disclosed.

Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.

The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described, and of which the scope of application will be indicated in the following claims. V

Referring in detail to the drawing, 10 denotes a portion of a Christmas tree which is dressed with an ornamental unit 11 embodying the invention and with a suitable decorative lighting outfit 12, generally used for decorative or display purposes.

The outfit 12 is seen to comprise a plurality of lamp sockets 12 each. having a lamp 12 mounted therein and connected by conductor wires 12 in the well known manner. The sockets and lamps are suitably supported on the tree 10 and arranged to give a desired pleasing effect.

The ornamental unit 11 is constructed of any suitable sheet material and is preferably fashioned to form an artistic element such as a star 13 or any other decorative shape or design. On the rear side of each unit 11 are provided holders 13 adapted to receive lamp sockets such as 12 In the form shown in the drawing, these holders 13 are arranged adjacent the points ofthe star 13 so that when the'lamps 12 in the. holders 13 are lighted, the star effect is produced. It will of course be understood thatsimilar desired effects such as that of a cross, crescent, etc. and the like designs may be produced by correspondingly shaping the element 13 and arranging the holders 13 thereon. Theholders 13 may be formed on the extensions 13 from the body portion, having gripping members 13 provided by bending the sides of extensions 13 as'will clearly appear from Figs. 2, 3 and 4. For supporting the element 13 on the Christ mas tree 10, or other object to be decorated,

the attaching member 14 is provided which may be formed in any suitable manner, as from a portion of the body of the star 13, or as shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 4, may be made of a separate piece of material and firmly secured to the rear side of the unit 11 by clips 13 stamped out from the star 13. If desired, member 14 may be soldered'or otherwise at-. tached to the unit 11. 'lheholder 14 is pro- Vided with gripping members 14" which may be constructed similarly to members 13. From theabove description, it is thus seen that the unit 11 is of simple construction being made of a single blank of sheet material cut to form the integral extensions 13 and the gripping members 13.

The front side of the unit 11 is preferably provided with an ornamental finish (not shown) by embossing, painting, or coating same, or in any other well known manner.

In using the invention, a unit 11 is mounted on the tree 10 by means of attaching member 14, with as many sockets 12 and lamps 12 as desired, secured one in each of the holders 13*. Since a Christmas tree outfit usually has eight sockets and lamps in series, the remaining sockets and lamps may be mounted on the tree 10 in spaced single holder members 15 as shown in Fig. 1.

It will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.

As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiment above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawing is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. An ornamental device of the character described adapted to support a plurality of lamp sockets in a predetermined spaced relation to conform with a desired design, said device comprising a flat sheet metal blank having portions in the same plane therewith provided with integral resilient members forming holders for relcasablyengaging the individual lamp sockets, and attachment means on said metal blank intermediate said resilient members for securing the device to a support.

2. An ornamental device of the character described adapted to support a plurality of lamp socketsin a predetermined spaced relation to conformwith a desired design, said device comprising a flat sheet metal blank having portions in the same plane therewith provided with integral resilient members forming holders for releasably engaging the individual lamp sockets, and attachment means on said metal blank intermediate said resilient members for securing the device'to a support comprising elements struck up from said body portion.

In an ornamental device of the character described, a flat body portion of the desired ornamental shape having means for holding electric light sockets in predetermined spaced relation, said body portion having co-planar extensions formed with integral resilient means for gripping the electric light sockets, and supporting means on said body portion.

' 4. In an ornamental device of the character described, a flat body portion of the de sired ornamental shape having means for holding electric lights in predetermined spaced relation, said body portion having coplanar extensions formed with integral resilient means for gripping the electric lights and supporting means on said body portion comprising elements struck up from said body portion and a supporting member held in place by said struck up elements.

5. A decorative lighting display comprising a portable lighting outfit and a one-piece decorative unit, said lighting outfit including a plurality of lamp sockets and lamps, said unit having a plurality of spaced integral resilient socket receiving members for spring gripping individual lamp sockets, and other gripping means intermediate the first mentioned means adapted to secure the unit on a support.

Inanornamental device of the character described adapted to support a plurality of lamp sockets in a predetermined spaced relation toconform with a desired design, a flat body portion, a plurality of integral extensions radiating from said body portion and in the same plane therewith, the ends of said extensions formed with integral resilient meansffor gripping the individual lamp sockets, and attachment means comprising elements struck up from said body portion and a supporting member held in place by said struck up elements.
