This invention relates, in general, to the art of curtain and portiere traversers and hanging means and more especially to an 1111- proved attaching curtain or portiere cord device, and a purpose of the invention is to provide means for facilitating the attachment of the adjusting and pull cord to curtains and portieres, enabling an interior decorator to easily hang curtains, portieres and the like.

m Another purpose is to provide a cord attaching device which can be either fastened to the curtain or portiere by stitching or can be riveted to a wish bone tr verser, or to any other type of traverser.

The main idea of the cord attaching device is to provide an opening or hole through the traverser, using a set screw passing through the metal of the device at right angles to the hole, so as to impinge or bite on the cord and hold it fixed in the hole or open ing.

It is to be understood that the particulars herein given are in no way limitative, and

that while still keeping within the scope of the invention, any desired modification of details and proportions may be made in the construction of the appliance according to circumstances.

The invention comprises further features and combination of parts to be hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawing and claimed.

In the drawing Figure 1 is a view showing a pair of portieres or curtains, showing a rod and a plurality of wish bone traversers attached to the portiere and engaged with the rod, also showing the pull or adjusting cords for the portieres.

Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view on line 22 of Figure 1.

Figure 3 is a detail view on line 3-3 of Figure 1 showing the wish bone traverser, showing one type of cord attaching device.

Figure 4 is a view of another form of cord T attaching device, which is to be attached to provided for the reception of the portiere Serial No. 583,569.

Referring to the drawing 1 identifies a porticre pole, and 2 are the portieres. The portieres are in sets or pairs or in other words double and their upper portions are spread apart and attached to wish bone traversers 3, which are guided on the portiere pole. The traversers are defined as wish bone type due to their hanging arms diverging upwardly, more or less in conformity to the cylindrical contour of the pole. Connecting the arms 4 of the traversers are curved rods 5, and mounted on the rods are rollers 6, which ride on the cylindrical surface of the pole. The downwardly protruding leg 7 of the traversers depend in position between the double (55 portieres while the portieres are stitched to the arms of the traversers, due to the stitching 8 passing through the apertures 9 of the diverging arms.

Riveted or otherwise fastened at 11 to the arms of one of the traversers, that is one of each set of portieres, where the portieres meet is a cord attaching device 12. This cord attaching device 12 is in the form of a plate, and in order to locate the plate in the crotch of the traverser, the plate is curved. Near the center of the plate a body portion 13 is provided having an opening 14, through which the portiere pull cord passes, there being a set screw 15 engaged through the body 89 portion and attached to impinge on the pull cord so as to make the cord fast to the traverser.

In Figure 4 the cord attaching device is in the form of a plate which is flat and has openings 16 for stitches, to attach the same to the portiere.

The central portion of the plate in Figure 4 has a body portion 17 with a transverse opening 18 through which the cord passes, there being a set screw 19 for impinging on the cord.

In Figure 5 the traverser 20 has an opening 21 through which the portiere pole passes. In this form the traverser has extended ends 22 with openings 23 to receive stitches for attaching the traverser to the portiere or any type of drapery. At one end of the traverser a transverse opening 245 is pull cord 25, there being a set screw 26 engaged through the traverser for the purpose of impinging on the cord to attach the same to the traverser.

As herein previously stated the invention proper comprises the particular type of means for attaching the portiere pull cord either to the traverser or to the plate connected to the curtain, or to the plate carried by a wish bone traverser.

The invention having been set forth, what is claimed is 1. A means for attaching a pull cord to drapery, consisting of a body member having a transverse opening through which the pull cord passes, and a screw threaded through the body member at right angles to the opening for impinging on the cord to attach the cord in the opening.

2. A means for attaching a pull cord to drapery, consisting of a body member having a transverse opening through which the pull cord passes, and a screw threaded through the body member at right angles to the opening for impinging on the cord to attach the cord in the opening and means for operatively associating the body member on portieres.

3. A means for connecting a pull cord to drapery, consisting of a plate having a body portion and provided with means for operatively associating the plate on portieres, said body portion having an opening through which the cord engages, and a device operatively engaging through said body portion at right angles to the opening to bite upon the cord for connecting the cord thereto.

4. In a traverser, a wish bone hanger having rollers to engage a pole and traverse thereon, said hanger to be located between a psi! of portires, means for attaching the nger to the portires, a plate carried in the crotch of the diverging arms of the hanger and secured to the hanger, said plate having a body portion provided with a transverse opening through which a pull cord passes, and a set screw engaged through the body portion and impinging on the cord to attach the cord to the late. 5. As an artic e of manufacture, a traverser for drapery, comprising a body provided with means for attaching the body to a drapery, said body being formed with a relatively large openin through which a pole engages, whereby the %ody may traverse thereon, said body having an additional opening parallel with the first opening and through which a pull cord engages, and a device operatively engaging through the body at right angles to the cord and impinging thereon to retain the cord fixed relative to the body.

6. As an article of manufacture, a traverser for drapery including a pull cord, comprising a body withfastening means at its opposite ends to attach the body to the drapery, said body having an opening through which the pull cord to secure the cord fast to the body I of the device.
