Description
E. B. WHITE CURTAIN HANGER April 5, 1932.
Filed July 22, 1931 UNITED STATES ETTA B. WHITE, OF
PATENT OFFICE CHICAGO, ILLINOIS CURTAIN HANGER Application filed July 22,
The invention relates to Vcurtain or drapery hanger, of the type embodying a pin and suspending loop, and provides an article which admits of the pin occupying a vertical posi- .p' tion and adapted to be'concealed by the folds of the curtain, the latter being suspended in a manner to obscure the rod to which the curtain is attached.
The essential feature of the invention is the l provision of a hanger which may be easily and quickly attached to and removed from the curtain, drapery or like hanging, without stitching and which will be hidden from view, and conceal the curtain rod which is obscured by the upper portion of the curtain projecting upwardly in front thereof.
The hanger is formed from a single length of wire which is bent to provide a pin, a shank, a catch, a coil and a rod receiving loop which may be circular, elongated or any desired outline, said loop being in the length of the shank adjacent the point of the pin and in a plane at a right angle to the plane of the shank and pin.
For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof, reference is to be had to the drawings hereto attached and the subjoined description, in which corresponding parts are designated in the several views of the drawings and referred to in the specification by like reference characters.
In the drawings i Figure 1 is a detail perspective view illustrative of an application of an embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a detail vertical section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the hanger.
Fig. 4- is a perspective view of a modification.
The hanger is formed from a length of wire of suitable gauge, which is bent to provide a pin 1, a shank 2, a catch or guard 3, a coil 4 and a rod receiving loop 5 which may be of circular outline, as illustrated most clearly in Fig. 3, or elongated, as indicated in Fig. 4 of the accompanying drawings. The outline of the loop 5 will depend upon the cross sectional outline of the rod or pole 6 for which the pin or hanger is designed.
1931. Serial No. 552,512.
When the rod or pole 6 is round the loop 5 Y will be circular, but when the rod is llat the loop will be elongated, as illustrated in Fig. -l of the accompanying drawings.
The shank 2 and pin 1 are in the salne plane whereas the loop 5 is offset or in aplane at a right angle to the plane of the-shank and pin. The loop 5 is in the length of the shank 2 and is disposed adjacent the point of the pin 1 with the result that the hanger occupies an approximately vertical position when attached to a curtain or analogous drapery 7, as indicated most clearly in Fig. 1 of the drawings. When the hanger is applied the point of the pin 1 is disposed upwardly and the rod 6 passes through the loop 5 with the result that a portion of the pin projects above the Vcurtain rod and supports the curtain or hanging 7 in a manner to obscure the said rod which is hidden from view. It is further ob- T served that the hanger itself is likewise concealed since it is disposed in the rear of the curtain and within a fold to be hidden thereby, as indicated most clearly in Fig. 1 of the drawings. Y
A hanger constructed in the manner herein disclosed may be easily and readily attached to and disconnected from a curtain or other drapery without the necessity of stitching the pin thereto. When the hanger is applied the pin occupies a vertical position with the rod receiving loop 5 projecting rearwardly so as to engage the rod 6 which makes contact with both the pin l and shank 2, as will be readily understood. Y l
What is claimed. is
As a new article of manufacture, a curtain hanger consisting of a single length of wire bent to provide a pin, a shank, a catch at one end of the shank engageable with the point of the pin, a coil connecting the other end of the shank with the pin, and a loop in the length of the shank adjacent the point of the pin and disposed at a right angle to the plane of the pin and shank.
l'n testimony whereof, I have hereunto aflixed my signature this 15th day of July,
ETTA B. "WHITE
