RADIOCABINET Filed Feb. 23, 1932 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Patented Feb. 21, 1933 UNITED STAT-Es LUTHER G. STUBBS, OF HAMLET, NOB/.FE CAROLINA RADIOCBIITET My invention relates to improvements in radio cabinets, and one object of my invention is the provision o a cabinet of the ioor or table t e which will be provided or equipped with an appliance or attachment providing a smoking set or a desk at the will and desire of the person. t
Another obj ect of my invention 1s the provision of a radio cabinet equipped with A a smoking attachment and which will not 1n the least interfere with the proper functions of the cabinet and which will not detract from the ornamental appearance of the cabinet.
Another object of my invention is the production of a radio cabinet in which will be embodied a set for smokers use or which can be used as a desk, as may be found desirable and which will not add more than a mere trie to the cost of the cabinet.
Another object of m invention is the provision of a radio cabinet in which will be embodied an attachment for the use of smokers and which attachment will be normally out of sight, but which can be instantly put in position for use and which will provide a most perfect and complete set for the smoker and dispose the smokers utensils in the most convenient location.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a radio cabinet in which will be disposed a smokers set, or a desk, and which by reason of its desirability and usefulness will commend the cabinet to users or' a radio.
To attain the objects stated my invention consists of a door or table radio cabinet provided with an attachment providing a smokers set or a desk, and further in a radio cabinet embodying novel features of construc- 40 tion and combination of parts, substantially as described and claimed and as shown inthe accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 represents a front view of a radio cabinet equipped with my improvements,
showing the attachment in position for use.
Figure 2 represents a view taken at right angle to Figure 1, showing the attachment in position for use and showing the smoking set in dotted lines with the parts in the position they assume when in use.
` Application illed February 83, 1932. Serial No. 594,720.
Figure 3 represents a front view of a form of desk cabinet provided with my improvements with the set shown in dotted lines and out of use.
Figure 4 represents a transverse sectional 55 view on an enlarged scale of the important arts of my invention, the use position being 1n full lines, and the normal position being shown in dotted lines.
Figure 5 represents a vertical sectional 30 view through the complete invention, and
Figure 6 lrepresents a perspective view of the novel form or construction of the swinging member which carries the smokers artlcles or necessities.
Figure 7 represents a detail sectional view of a modified construction of my invention serving the two fold function of a smokers set and a desk.
Referring by numeral to the drawings in I0 which the same numbers of reference are used to denote like parts in all the views:
The numeral l designates a cabinet of the iioor or console type and 2 designates' a cabinet of the character supported on a table I5 or like support and in each type at a suitable and convenient location is a chamber or compartment 3, having a horizontal floor or wall y4.
My attachment or appliance is adapted to '80 'normaily occupy said chamber 3, and comprises the right angled shaped frame 5, having the curved end walls 6, and hinged at its lower edge 7, to the wall 4, and in this manner the Jframe may be swung outward and placed in position for use, as shown in full lines in Figure 4, or swung inward out of use as shown in dotted lines in said Figure 4, and the outward movement of the angle shaped frame is limited by the stop 8.
From this construction it will be noted that the angle shaped frame is hinged to swing in and out of the chamber of elther a oor or table set and carried by and swingingly or pendantly mounted in said frame 1s the member which carries the utensils or articles used by the smoker, and which is most clearly shown in Figure 6, and comprises the pair of end portions 9, pivoted at 10, tothe end walls of the frame and theY at horizontal platform portion 11, having a central opening 12, to receive the ash receptacle 13, and at one end with the pair of lugs 14 and the clamping arm 15, to receive and retain the box of matches 16, while at its other end said platform portion is provided with the pair of lugs 17 and the clamping arm of bail 18, for receiving and retaining a box of cigarettes 19, and the front panel or wall of the angle shaped frame is provided With a scratching plate 20, for'igniting matches.
It will be noted from Figure 4 that when the frame is lowered the swinging member occupies a vertical position and is retained in a steady place by means of the stop 21, and when desired to.use the attachment as a desk the member is raised to the position shown in dotted lines in Figure 4, where it is held out of the way by means of a suitable spring catch 22, carried by one of the end walls of the angle shaped frame.'
The advantages of my improvements will be instantly understood and appreciated and it will be seen that my improvements do not add appreciably to the cost of the cabinet; also that the improvements can be used u n floor or table sets with equal eiciency; al; that the improvements may be applied to cabinets in general use or to new cabinets; also that the improvements do not mar or detract from the beauty of the cabinet; also that a complete desk or smokers set is provided, and that generally in every particular the in vention is useful, desirable, eilicient and practical. l
In-the form of my invention shown in Figure 7, the structure provides both a smoker s appliance and a desk, and this form comprises the inner sliding leaf 23, the outer panel 24, hinged at 25, to swing upward when.
closed and said inner anel is Vguided in the cleats 26, and it will apparent that this form provides a most practical and eicient smokers appliance, and also provides a desk which is larger and more commodious than in the other form of my invention.
I claim:
1. A radio cabinet having a chamber, a
ber, a smokers set`,"said smokers set consisting of a member made from a single piece of fiat material and comprising a horizontal platform and a pair of end vertical portions ivoted to said frame and said latform eing further provided with struc up clamps at one end thereof, providing spring arms to engage suitable receptacles and with In testimony whereof, I affix my signature.
LUTHER G. STUBBS.
frame, means whereby the frame is mounted for movement into and out of said chamber, and a smokers set carried by said frame and mounted in said frame to'remain always in a vertical position when in and out of use, said smokers set, consistin of a member made from a single piece of at material and comprising a horizontal platform and a pair of ,fend vertical, portions pivoted to said frame, and said platform being further provided with` struck up clamps at one end thereof providing spring arms to engage suitable receptacles and with a central opening to form a seat for an ash receptacle.
