B. F. SPAYD.
- TOY DANCER; I No. 189,808, Patented Apri1'17,1877.
N. PETERS, PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHER. WASHINGTON. D C,
UNITED STATES BENJAMIN F. SPAYD, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN TOY DANCERS.
Spccification'forming part of Letters Patent No. 189,808, dated April 17, 1877 application filed November 17, 1876.
To all whom t'tmay concern Be it known that I, BENJAMIN F. SPAYD, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Toy Dancing Figures, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to construct a dancing toy of the most simple and cheap character, and one which will nevertheless operate as efficiently as the more expensive toys.
In the accompanying drawing, Figures 1 and 2 are, respectively, side and front views of my improved dancing figure, the base being in section to illustrate the operating mechanism, and Fig. 3 a detached sectional View of a portion of the figurc.
A represents the dancing figure, which may vary in character. and dress, the body consisting of a block,'to which the arms and legs are loosely hinged.
The figure is supported loosely upon the upper end of a vertical rod, B, as shown in Fig. 2, so that it is free to turn on said rod.
The lower end of this rod 13 is bent, so as to embrace a curved or bent rod or wire, a, which is arranged to turn in bearings in the end pieces of the base D, and is bent at one end, so as to form a cranked handle, b.
dancing toy of the simplest and cheapest" character, while all the efficiency of the more ezipensive toys is retained.
I wish it to be understood I do not desire to claim, broadly, a dancing toy operated by a crank; but
-1 claim as my invention The combination of the base D and the bent wire rod on and its handle with the figure A and the rod B, the lower end of which is bent to embrace the said rod a, as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
