Description

H. E. ISRAEL.
WASHING LIST'INDICATOR.
Witnesses N. PETERS. PHOTO-LITHGGRPMER. WASHINGTON. D. C
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HANNAH E. ISRAEL, OF STOOKTON, CALIFORNIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN WASHING-LIST INDICATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 189,740, dated April 17, 1877 application iiled March 1, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, H. E. ISRAEL, of Stockton, county of San Joaquin and State of Galifornia, have invented a Combined Washing- ListIndicator and Pin-Cushion; and I do hereby declare the following to be. a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to anovel device which I call a Washing-calendar or Washing-list indicator, the same consisting of a cushion with a Washing-list disposed thereon, as hereinafter more fully described, whereby the device can be utilized as a washing-list indicator and also as a pin-cushion.
Referring to 'the accompanying drawings for a more complete explanation of my invention, Figure l is a plan, and Fig. 2 is a side or edge view, of my device.
The body of my improved washing-list indicator consists of a cushion, A, of cloth or other textile or pliable fabric stuffed with any suitable substance, which may be readily penetrated by a pin, and preferably' secured to a rigid base, which may be of wood, metal, cardboard, or the like.
In providing this cushion with a Washing'- list I propose to employ the followingdescribed arrangement, viz: From the center B radial columns of ligures G extend to the circumference, and these columns beginning at l are numbered either outward or inward up to the highest number of clothes of any one kind that may be likely to be sent at any one time. Within each of these columns, at its head is printed or marked the name of an article, as at D, and as many names Will thus be employed as will cover every article likely to besent out. Around the circumference of the calendar may be left a space, E, for the sum total.
Any desired number of pins may be stuck into the cushion Within the central space B, so that the article may thus be utilized as a pin-cushion Without encroaching upon the re- `maining space set apart as an A indicator. When, however, it is desired to make use of the latter, the operation will be as follows:
The clothing is sorted, and the number of each kind being' ascertained a pin, F, may be taken from the center B or pincush ion proper, and stuck into the cushion A at the number in the column which has the name of that article at its head, and so on, until all the articles are enumerated. The sum-total may then be indicated by means of a pin in the space upon the circumference.
lf desired some of the pins may be provided AWith heads of variously-colored wax.
These calendars may be arranged for gentlemens, ladies, or childrens use, or for family or hotel purposes by slight variations.
The device is economical, and furnishes not only a pin-cushion but also a ready means for keeping account With the laundry.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, a washinglist indicator, the same consisting of a cushion, A, with a Washing-list disposed thereon, substantially as described, whereby the device can be utilized both as an indicator and as a pin-cushion, as set forth.
In Witness whereof' I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
