Description
B. BAILEY.
BUTTONS.
No. 189,595, Patented April 17; 1877.
ATTORNEYS.
N. PEFEHS, PHDTO-LITHOGRA UNITED STATES BENJAMIN BAILEY, OF YALE, BRITISH COLUMBIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BUTTONS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 189,595, dated April 17, 1877; application filed December 23, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN BAILEY, of Yale, district of Yale, British Columbia, have invented a new and Improved Suspender-Button, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a front view of a pair of suspenders, shown attached to my improved button. Eigs. 2 and 3 are, respectively, a re..r view and a vertical transverse section on line 0 c, Fig. 2, of the button, in enlarged size; and Figs. 4
' and 5 are, respectively, a rear view and section on line 00 m, Fig. 4:, of a button-fastening for the straps of suspenders.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention has reference to an improved button, that is applied to the pants without sewing, in reliable manner, for the purpose of securing thereto the suspenders in convenient, durable, and reliable manner; and the invention consists of a button with recess for attaching a spring-steel hook of the suspenders, the button being secured, by a hook-shaped shank, nicked plate, and concave spring-plate, to the waistband of the pants.
In the drawing, A represents the button, to
which the suspenders B are attached by means of spring-steel hooks G.
The button A is secured to the pants without sewing, by means of a hook-shaped shank, a, that is passed through a hole of thewaistband of the pants. The shank a. is secured to the button A in a suitable manner by a center plate, b, and retained on the waistband by a nicked plate, d, and concave spring-plate e. The shank a passes through a slot, (1, of plate PATENT OFFICE.
d, entering a recess, a, of spring-plate e, and, by its hook end, a second smaller recess, 6 of spring-plate 0, so as to form a perfectly reliable and durable connection.
By releasing the hook end of the shank a from the spring-plate the button may be readily detached from the pants for being used over again.
The annular rim 9 of the button is provided at one point of its circumference with a recess, 9, through which the spring-steel book 0 of the suspenders is passed, the spring-hook being instantly put in and taken off, avoiding, by its use, the tearing out of the button-holes of the suspenders, and furnishing a more durable and superior connection of suspenders and buttons.
The leather straps and elastics of the suspenders are connected at the different points by means of button-fastcnings D, (shown in detail in Figs. 4 and 5,) which consist of a nicked metal backing-plate, face-button, and connecting clamp-hooks passed through the straps and driven into the button.
I reserve the right to file a separate appli cation on the button-fastening.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination, with button A, of the headed hook at, apertured plate I), slotted plate 01, and open-slotted plate 6 0 having recess 6 substantially as and for the purpose specified.
BENJAMIN BAILEY.
