This invention relates to holders for cigars, cigarettes or the like and has as its primar. ob ect the provision of a holder which W1 I prevent the staining of the fingers orhand from smoke or tobacco, maintain one hand free of the odor of smoke, and further wherein the holder is of very light yet strong and durable construction and of such a size as when laced on ones finger or otherwise supporte for retaining a cigarette will prove of no inconvenience. Z
Other objects and advantages of the invention willbecome apparent uring'a study of the followin I description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing,
wherein:
' Figure 1 is a rspective view showin the application of t e holder-through the ore-' fin er of a hand, v
igure 2 is a perspective view of the holdthrough the holder, 1 Fi re 4 is a lan view of the blank for With reference more in detail to the drawing, it will be seen that my improved holder comprises a split ring 5 preferably made of light sheet metal but which can be made of any other suitable material, the ends of which are spaced and slightly curved as at 6 so as not to pinch the finger when the ring is sli d thereon. I j
ormed integrally with the ring 5 are a pair of resilient clamping jaws 77, which I clamping jaws 77 are bent up from the ring ing. Thus it will be seen that the holder hav,-
ing a cigarette clampedbetween the jaws igure 3 is a vertical sectional view taken vertical position on atable or like support and will so support the cigarette as to retain the lighted end thereof above and away from the table cloth or other .covering so that the possibilityof the lighted end of the cigarette coming into contact with the cloth or covering is reduced to a minimum. Thus the danrette is avoided unless of course the holder should be knocked over. However the lateral fingers 8 provide substantial means for normall retaining the holder against being so knoc ed over, other than by force being applied to the holder.
It is thou ht that from the foregoing description, ta en in connection with the ac.- compa-n-ying drawing a clear nderstanding of. the construction, utilit and advantages of a cigar or cigarette hol er of this character willibe appreciated by those skilled inthe a without a more detail description.
.ger of the cloth becomingignited by the ciga- Eveii thou h I have herein shown thepre ferred embo iment 0t my invention,'it is to.
be understood that the Same is susceptible to changes in size, shape, and materials used as fall within the spirit of the invention as herein described, and the scope of the appended claims.
, Having thus described my invention, what- I claim as new is:
1. As anew article of manufacture, a tobacon users appliance com rising in combination a ring provided w1t opposed airs of oppositely extending lateral ears or su porting the ring on. a support, substantia y perpendicular to the support, and clam ing ]8.WS carried by the ring on a portion 0 the ring diametrically oppositeto said ears.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a tobaccohsers appliance comprising in combination, a split ring providedadjacent its ends with airs of oppositely extending lateralears or supporting the ring on a support substantially rpendicularly, and clamping jaws carried y the rin and disposed diametrically (opposite to t e s lit in the rings -Intestimony whereof I a my signature.
