UNITED STATES BENJAMIN F. MALLORY, OF ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA.
SMOKING-PIPE HOLDER.
Application filed June 1, 1926. Serial No. 112,948.
This invention relates toholders for smoking pipes and has tor lts primary ob ect to provide an article of this character that is extremely simple of construction and inex pensive of manufacture and one that may be applied to the pipe for associationtherewith during the smoking oi the same in order to permit he pipe to be placed upon a table, desk, or other support without any liability of the burning of the support, or the spilling of the contents of the bowl, which is usually the case when laying pipes directly upon av table or other support.
An additional object of the invention is to provide a holder that is constructed {or application to various sizes and shapespf pipes, and one that may be readily applied to or removed from the pipe.
Other objects will become apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood,
the same 'coi'nprising the novel form of pipe holder hereinafter more tally described, shown in the tLGCOlBPtIDyHIg drawing and claimed.
In the drawing wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the various views:
Figure l is a side elevation of a conven tional "form of pipe supported in such a manner to prevent the spilling of the contents of the bowl and in spaced relation with the support through the use of the present invention, the same being shown as actually associated with the pipe.
Figure 2 is a perspective of the holder, the particular pipe which is of slightly different form as that shown in Figure 1, being disclosed in dotted lines, and
Figure 3 is the blank from which the holder is shaped.
Now having particular reference to the drawing, my novel pipe holder constitutes the provision of a sheet metal blank that consists of a circular disc 5 of predetermined area that is formed at its edge and at diametrically opposed points with extension tongues 6 and 7 of varying predetermined length, said tongues being formed at their outer ends with right angular cross strips 6 and 7 respectively, the strip of the longer tongue being of greater length than the strip of the shorter tongue as more clearly disclosed in Figure 3.
In actual use when it'is desired to associate the holder with the type of pipe dis closed in Figure 1 and designated A which type of pipe is provided with a straight stem, the short tongue 7' of the disc 5 is bent diagonally upwardly to the desired degree, while the long tongue (Sis curved in an up ward direction somewhat conforming to the curvature of the bottom and outer side of the pipe bowl. The ends of the strips 6 and 7 are then bent around the bowl and stem respectively "for maintaining the pipe in slight spaced position with respect to the disc 5. The disc 5 then ati'ords a supporting plate for rest upon the table, desk, or other place upon which it is desired to lay the same.
In the form of the invention disclosed in Figure 2 the pipe A disclosed in dotted lines is of the conventional curved stem pipe and in this instance the tongues 6 and 7 and their corresponding cross strips 6 and 7 are so bent as to maintain the pipe in position above the central disc 5 and attached thereto.
It will thus be seen that I have provided a highly novel, simple, and eiiicient form of pipe holder that is well adapted for all the purposes heretofore designated, and even though I have herein shown and described the same as being constructed from a single predetermined shaped blank it is nevertheless to be understood that minor departures may be had therefrom without affecting the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. As a new article of manufacture, a pipe holder comprising a base, tongues extending upwardly from the base at diametrically op posite points, and means associated with the free ends of the tongues for engagement with the bowl and stem respectively of the pipe for supporting the same above the base.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a pipe holder comprising a base, tongues extending upwardly from the base at diametrically opposits points, and means associated with the tree ends of the tongues for engagement with the bowl and stem respectively of the pipe for supporting the same above the base, said last mentioned means comprising curved clamping jaws disposed at right, angles to therespective tongues.
Bil
3. As a new article of manufacture, a pipe holder comprising a sheet metal disc, tongues extending upwardly from said disc at diametrically opposite points, one of said tongues being of greater length than the other, and jaw forming strips carried by the outer ends of said tongues and disposed at right angles thereto, the strip carried by the longer tongues being of greater length than the other strips, said jaws adapted to engage 10 the bowl and stem of the pipe respectivei'y for supporting the same above the disc.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
BENJAMIN F. MALLORY.
