The present invention relates to a portable step for a ladder which can be placed on any round desired for the purpose of more comfortably supporting a person for a long time .5 when using the ladder.
Another very important object of the invention resides in the provision of a portable step of this nature which is simple in its construction, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to manipulate and shift from round to round as may be desired, thoroughly efficient and reliable in use and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the numeral 5 denotes a step. Numeral 6 denotes an L-shaped plate one leg of which is countersunk in a groove 7 formed in the bottom of the step 5 leading inwardly from a front edge thereof to an intermediate portion and the other leg of the plate extends downwardly to engage the inner side of a ladder round 8. Numerals 9 denote a pair of plates having extensions merging from intermediate portions of the inner edges in planes at right angles thereto with their median longitudinal dimensions obliquely disposed to said edges. The extensions are denoted by numerals 10 and are engaged on the ends of the step 5 by means of screws or the like. These plates 9 engage on the front edges of the sides 11 of the ladder. It will readily be seen that the step may be easily lifted up and disengaged from the particular rung or round and then engaged with any of the other rungs of the ladder.
It is thought that the construction, utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof.
The present embodiment of the invention has been described in considerable detail merely for the purposes of exemplification since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.
It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
1. In a device of the class described, a step,
a projection depending from the step, and plates mounted on the ends of the step adj acent one side thereof and disposed in planes oblique to the plane of the step.
2. In a device of the class described, a step,
a projection depending from the step, and plates mounted on the ends of the step adjacent one side thereof and disposed in planes oblique to the plane of the step, said plates having extensions fixed to the ends of the steps.
3. In a device of the class described, a step, an L-shaped plate having one of its legs secured to the bottom of said step and its other leg depending from said step, and plates mounted on the ends of the step adjacent one side thereof and disposed in planes oblique to the plane of the step, said plates having extensions fixed to the ends of the steps.
