APPARATUS non DRYING QE ATIN ND man 7 Application filed April 13,
My present invention is a novel and improved apparatus for use in the manufacture, and particularly the drying, of gelatin and similar substances. 7
. In the handling of such articles as gelatin,
particularly when employed as a food product, it is most essential that same be treated and handled in a hygienic manner, and by apparatus capable of being readily, efficiently, and easily cleansed. My present invention provides an all-metal drying frame construction, having means for quickly attaching or ing frames has been that the main frame por- I tion is usually made of wood and the same is necessarily subjected to alternate wet and dry action, and, furthermore, such frames in handling are subjected to considerable strain. As these frames are ordinarily from 4 to 5 long,'and 3 to 4 wide, with the net stretched tightly thereover, and as the same is subjected to a beating or hammer-like blows to dislodge the gelatin from the net when inverted after drying, the constant breakage, damage, looseness in the frame, and hence constant repairing and expense are serious items.
In my present all-metal frame structure I eliminate the difficulties above briefly outlined and utilize an improved novel, strong, and especially desirable all-metal frame, particularly available for use in handling food products, such as gelatin or the like.
A further improvement in the present invention consists in the simplicity of the net and frame attaching devices, eliminating all danger of dirt or dust, or other unhygienic matter accumulating in corners on the frame, or where the 'net or frame are attached which has heretofore been a serious difficulty in prior devices, particularly the usual wooden frames and wire net constructions.
Further details, novel combinations, and advantages will be hereinafter more fully pointed out and claimed.

I may,if desired, form any suitable-number of such hooks 3, preferably strand of the wire net along the sides and on each strand along the endp'ortions, but this arrangement is, of course, optional and any aear s es. 4; t ere n- Awakened .orj'p un 'ity bt sus ihb ksim y bef thus formed around the 2 both sides and adsot heir me.-;: ree elva sei h are so stamped or as to give; a, slight. -roundconfigitrationat the base of the hook 3, as 'shownfat 5;""5,'todi'slodge the engagement 3 an e ats p rspeetive f these i vproviding same to "engage each alternate sufficient number of hooks to hold the net relatively rigid can be employed. Furthermore, anysuitable size or type of net may be utilized and with the wires angularly or recframe slightly above the floor, table, or carrier on which it may rest.
In use, itis customary to fit the net over the sides and each end, and thereupon by applying a still stretching strain andby the use of a small tool, to stretch the remaining side 5 of the net over onto the hooks 3. This net is firmly secured and will permit the inverting of the frame when it is desired" to remove the gelatin or the like after drying, and also allow a hammering or beatingaction on the reverse side of the net to dislodge a the gelatin therefrom without dislodging the net from the books 3 and the frame, The a net can be readily cleansed, or replaced and renewed, and the entire frame and 11% may 15 be sterilized by steam, if desired, immersed. in boiling water, or subjected to other clean ing operations. I i
It Will be seen that I have devised a novel, strong, all-metal, structural, drying frame with provision for quick attachment, or ready detachment of the net and frame,'the entire structure being simple, strong, and hygienic in construction and in use, making it especially adaptable for handling food products. V
Iclaim: A hygienic apparatus of the kind described for drying food products, gelatin, or the like, comprising an all-metal rectangular frame, a plurality of hooks stamped from'the top portion of said frame, having an inclined wedge-shaped surface and around wire-engaging portion and, a removable .wire net constructed and arranged to be detachably secured to' said frame by predetermined meshes ofsaid wire net engaging and jam-' ming under the wedgehook and bearing-onthe'wire-engaging surface.-
'In testimony whereof, I have; signed 40 name to this specification. I 1 Y 7 1 AVID U.; SMI' 1TH.
