This invention relates to the conveying of cement, coal dust, cement raw meal, and similar fine-grained materials in which the material is forced by compressed air from It: a closed tank through a conveyor pipe or conduit.
The object of the invention-is to make it possible to control the speed of conveying and at the same time to prevent the conveyor pipe I w from being clogged or obstructed and to avoid W sured that the pressure of the compressor does not exceed a predetermined degree, permissible for the compressor, while by adjusting the load on the valve the speed of conveying can be adapted to the requirements at any time.
The single figure of the drawing is a diaammatic view illustrating the invention. The material to be conveyed and contained in a closed tank 1 isforced vihromthe tank W through a conveyor pipe 2 by compressed air supplied by a' compressor 3 and delivered into the tank through a pipe 4. In accordance with the invention the air pipe 4 and the conveyor pipe 2 are connected together through a by-pass pipe 5, in which is provided an adjustable valve 6, which may be constructed as an ordinary safety valve loaded by a weight 7 or in any other known 7 d manner. When the pressure of thecompressed air reaches a predetermined degree the valve allows air to pass through the bypass pipe 5 into the conveyor pipe 2 withoutentering the tank 1. The pressure at which the valve 6 opens may be adjusted according to the maximum pressure for which the compressor plant is constructed or it may be adjusted. in accordance with the speed at which it is desired to empty the tank 9 1 as the time required .to empty the tank 1 'enable it to be opened andclosed as desired.
may be increased by reducing the pressure of the air in the tank.
In order to remove obstructions in the conveyor pipe 2 and thus prevent clogging thereof bypass pipes 5 may be connected to the conveyor pipe 2 at various points, so that compressed air can be supplied immediately 'in front of the clogged or obstructed point of the conveyor pipe 2, each such pipe being preferably provided with avalve so as to so I claim as my invention Apparatus for conveying fine'grained materials comprising a closed tank, means to supply air under pressure to said tank, a delivery pipe through which the material is delivered from the tank, a by-pass through which air may be delivered from the supply direct to the deliveryzpipe, and a safety valve interposed in the by-pass and adapted to permit air to pass from the air supply p1pe directly into the delivery pipe when the pressure in the tank exceeds a predetermined de- This specification signed this 25th day of June, A.
