This invention relates to window locks and more particularly to a lock and an antirattlerfor windows.
An object of this invention is to provide a relatively simple lock for locking a window in a sash so as to prevent raising of the window, and at the same time to hold the upper and lower windows into contact with each other so as to prevent rattling thereof.
Another object of this invention is to provide a device of this kind which is operated from the interior of the window frame or sash which is so constructed that it will prevent unauthorized raising of the window from the exterior thereof. s
The aboveand various other objects and advantages of this invention will in part be described in and in part be understood from the following detailed description of the 26 present preferred embodiment, the same being illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein igure 1 is an end elevation of a device constructed according to the preferred embodiment of this invention, mounted on a vindow which is shown in fragmentary Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1, and

In order to securely lock the lower window structure 12 within the sash 10, I have provided a window locking and antirattling member, generally designated as 14, which is slidably mounted on the inner face of the sash 10 by means of a pair of spaced screws or headed members 15 which extend ,45 through an elongated slot 13, the slot 13 being disposed in angular relation to the longitudinal axis of the locking member 14, the inclination being outwardly and downwardly.
to The locking member 14 comprises a body plate 16 of substantially rectangular configuration and a handle or grasping portion 17, which is integrally formedwith the plate 16 and extending at substantially right angles therefrom.
In the use of this device, the locln'ng member 14: is slidably secured to the sash or frame of the window structure by means of the headed screws 15 which extend through the slot 13, these screws being disposed in spaced relation to each other so as to prevent rock-' ing of the locking member. The lower edge of the plate 16 is normally disposed in a position where it is slightly above the top edge of the lower window 12 when the looking member 14 is in released position.
When it is desired to lock the window, the plate 16 is moved outwardly, the. outward movement thereof causing the lower edge to move downwardly due to the inclined slot 13 and press against the upper edge of .the window 12. This will tighten the lower window 12in the frame 10 and also prevent the raising of the window 12 until the .plate 16 has been moved inwardly into released position. The tightening of the window 12 in the frame structure or sash 10 will prevent rattling of the window structure and, if desired, the locking member may be moved inwardly to a point where it will engage against the inner face of the upper window structure 11, so as to hold this window against rattling while simultaneously holding the lower window against rattling and locking the lower window.
It is, of course, understood that various changes 'andmodifications mEy be made in the details of construction and design of the above specifically described embodiment of this invention without departing from the spirit thereof, such changes and modifications being restricted only by the scope of the following claims.
I claim 1. A window lock of the character described comprising an elongated plate memher having an elongated opening therethrough disposed'in angular relation to the upper and lower edges thereof, a handle integrally formed with one end of the plate, and means mo 2 for slidably securing the plate on a window frame for movement into locking enga ement with a horizontal edge portion a slidable window whereby to hold the window 3 against movement.

A window lock of the character de scribed comprising an elongated plate member having an elongated opening therethrough disposed 1n inclined relation to the opposite o sides of the plate, a handle formed with one end of the plate and disposed at right angles thereto, means extending through the slot of the plate for slidably securing the plate to a window frame, said plate upon horizontal movement into or out of engagement with the window having vertical movement whereby upon moving the plate inwardly across the path of the window and into engagement with the window to force the lower edge of go the plate to hold the Window against vertical movement in the frame while simultaneously holding the window against rattling.
