PANTS RACK Filed May '15, 1931 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 /1. 6'. Earner 1 Bygg Patented Nov. 8, 1932 UNITED STATES PATE KENNETH c. GARNER, or HAMLET, NORTH CAROLINA PANTS RACK Application filed May 15,
Figure 3 is a vertical section therethrough,
taken substantially on the line 33 of F ig ure 1.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of one of the brackets.
Figure 5 is a perspective of one of the retaining rods, and
Figure 6 is an enlarged exaggerated detail perspective view of one end thereof.
Referring to the drawings more in detail, it will be seen that 5 designates a pair of relatively spacedopposed uprights, between the upper portions of which are spaced par allel cross members 6 and 7,
The parallel bars 6 and 7 serve to support a plurality of relatively spaced brackets, each of which is substantially V-shaped in formation and includes an upper horizontal arm 8 and an inclined or oblique arm .9 and at their forward ends, arms .8 and 9 merge into one another and are curved slightly upwardly so as to provide at the apex of the bracket a hook 10.
The upper arm 8 adjacent the hook 10 is provided with an eye 11 for a purpose to be hereinafter made manifest. Said arm at its free end is formed to provide an eye 12 merging into a depending trunnion 13 journalled in a recess inthe bar 6. Thearm 9at its free end is formed to provide an eye 14 merging into a trunnion 15 journalled in a recess in the bar 7. Thus it will be seen that 4 the bracket may be swung laterally when supported on the bars 6 and 7 Each bracket also includes a retaining rod 16 provided at one end with an eye 17 engageable with the eye 12. At its free or forward end, the rod 16 is provided with a 1931. Serial No. 537,720.
lateral eye 18, which eye 18 merges into a depending U-shaped vertical portion 19, the free leg of which is extended upwardly above the plane of the rod 16 as at 20 to provide a shank equipped with suitable means for accommodating a card or the like 21, said card bearing certain indicia, as for examplev the price of the pants or garment supported by the bracket, ithe size of the garment, etc.
In actualpractice, and as shown in Fig ure 3, the pants or like garment designated generally by the reference character P is folded" over or otherwise engaged with the horizontal arm 8 of the bracket, and the retaining rod 16 is then swung to a position substantially parallel to the arm 8 for engagement with the pants P whereby toretain the pants on the arm 8. When the rod .16 is swung to a retaining position, the eye 18 thereof which is slightly inclined relative to the horizontal, is passed through the eye 11 as shown in Figure 6 whereby the rod 16 is retained in operative position with respect to the arm 8 and the display card 21 is supported at the forward end of the bracket.
The member 19 serves as a handle for manipulating the rod 16 as isthought 'apparent. I i
' Even though I have herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the in-i' 7 vention, it is to be understood that the same is susceptible of changes, modifications and a improvements coming within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
A bracket of the class described comprising in combination a pair of upper and lower vertically alined apertured supporting members, a bracket made from a single piece of wire to form an upper longitudinal arm, a lower inclined arm, and upper and lower longitudinally alined and downwardly projecting ends or pintles adapted to engage the apertures in said supporting members; said upper longitudinal arm being also provided adpacent its pintle with an eye, and remote from said eye with a second'eye, and av-rod provided adjacent one end with an eye engaging the first named eye, and atits other end provided With a laterally extending eye adapted to frictionally engage the second named eye on said upper longitudinal arm to yieldably retain said rod in 00- acting clamping relation With said upper arm, said rod at said last named end being also provided with a perpendicular handle portion.
In testlmony whereof I alfix my signature.
