Description

FQ C. BARBER. ELEvA-ToR-BUGKET.
lNo.188,565. Patented March 20,1877.
FERNANDO (l. BARBER, OF OXFORD, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN ELEvAToR-BUCKETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 188,565, dated March 20, 1877; application filed December 30, 1874.
To all lwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FERNANDO C. BARBER, of Oxford, in the county of Oakland and State of Michigan, have invented au Improved Elevater-Bucket, of which the following is a speccation:
The object of my invention is to so construct an elevator-bucket from a single piece of sheet metal as that it will be stronger and more durable than those heretofore used; and it consists in the peculiar outline or confirmation of the blank, and in the manner of folding and joining its projections together, as more fully hereinafter set forth.
Figure l is a perspective View of the bucket. Fig. 2 is a plan or diagram of the blank from which the bucket is formed.
In the drawing, A represents the blank of sheet metal from which the bucket is formed. The main or straight portion of the body of said blank forms the back and front ofthe cup. At one end of the main portion there is a quadrantshaped projection, A', at each side, which projections form the ends of the bucket, Which are not true curves, but present three angular faces, as shown. On each side of the remainder ofthe body of the blank there are three projecting lips, c c c, which, when the front is folded up against thev edges of the bucket ends,- are folded over said ends, and also overlap each other, as seen in Fig. l, and a rivet, d, is inserted through the end and laps of said iips to secure the Whole together. There is a lip, a, at the upper end of the back, which is folded over upon itself. At the end of the front there is a similarly-folded lip, b,
and in like manner a lip, a', is folded down at the top edge of each end, all of which folds strengthen and stiifen the top edges of the bucket, every edge or corner exposed to friction being doubled, as described.
What l claim as my invention, and desire to secure by'Letters Patent, is-
Au elevator-bucket, substantially of the shape shown, made from a single pieceof sheet metal, and having the quadrant-shaped projections A, lips c, lips a, a, and b, and rivets d, as and for the purpose set forth.
p FERNANDO O. BARBER.
