An Object of my invention is to provide means, such-as an adapter, to be applied to a safety razor to locate a blade in shaving position thereon which otherwise would not fit properly in the razor, as distinguished from a proper blade made to fit the razor.
A furtherobject of my invention? is to pro# vide such-an adapter that will not only locate a blade in shaving position in the razor but may also Control the position of the blade cap or blade backing member of the razor with relation to the guard member thereof.
This feature of my inventionis particularly applicable in safety razors having blade clampingV members'in which the blade capl or backing member and the guard member vdo not have cooperative means for locating the cap in shaving `relation toA the blade, as in those razors in which the blade itself cooperates with the cap or backing member to locate the latter in shaving relation to the blade and the guard member does not. In carrying out my invention I provide a safety razor comprising blade clamping members and means to retain said members clamped against a blade, with an adapter provided with means to detachably Vconnect it with one of said members, such as' the guardV member, said.` adapter and the cap or blade backing member having cooperative means a blade to retain the latter in shaving relation to a blade between said members, said adapter also having means to cooperate with a blade to retain the latter in Vshaving, rela. tion to the guard member, although said blade may not have means cooperativey with the guard member itself for positioning the blade thereon. n i. The blade clamping members, as indicated7 include a guard member l and a cap or blade backing member 2 adapted to elampa blade 8 between them. Any suitable means may be provided for clamping the vmembers land 24 against the blade. I have shown the adapter 7 as provided at ,its ends with outwardlyextending projections 11 that are adapted to cooperate with the ends of the blade to retainthe latter in shaving position with respect to the guard member. (By preference the yblade is shown provided with projecting means V3b at its ends that are located in spaced relation by means of recesses 3 at the ends of the blade. When the adapter is in position on the` guard member and the blade 3 is applied against the adapter, the projections 10 will not properly lit the blade in its opening 3a but the projections 3b of the blade will engagev the projections 1l of the adapter, and thereby the blade will be located in shaving relation to the guard teeth.
In the example illustrated, it will be assumed that the projections 10 of the guard Vmember do not fit against the cap or blade backingV member 2 so as tolocate the latter in shaving relation to the blade. c As illustrated, the cap 2 is shown provided yin itsV under surface with recesses 12 that receive thev projections lOrloosely so as not to guide orcontrol theoperative position of the cap. then by applying the cap upon the blade the i adapter will locate the cap in shaving .position on the blade,.so that when the partsfare clamped together, bythe stemv and the handie, the blade will be properly retained for shaving. l
Changes may be kmade in the details of construction set forth within the scope ofthe .appended claims withoutdeparting fromthe spirit of my invention.

5. An adapter as set forth in claim 4L provided with recesses at its ends to receive projections from the cap.

An adapter for a safety razor comprising a piece of metal having curved marginal portions to enclose guard teeth of a safety razor for locating the adapter on said member in .shaving position, said adapter having means to engage a blade to locate the latter in shaving position on the guard member.
7 .An adapter as set forth in claim 6 having recesses at its ends to engage projections from the cap of the razor.
8. An adapter 'for a safety razor comprising a piece of metal having curved marginal portions to enc-loseV guard teeth of a safety razor for locating the adapter on said member in shaving position, said adapter having means to engage a cap to locate the latter in shaving position on the adapter.

A safety razor comprising blade clamping members, one of said members having projections to locate a blade in shaving position with respect to said member, an adapter having curved longitudinal edges said member to position the adapter thereon, a blade having an opening to loosely receive said projections, the adapter having means co-operative With the blade to locate the latter in shaving position on the adapter, and means to clamp said members with the blade and the adapterV between them.
l0. A safety razor as set forth in claim 9 in which the adapter is provided With means to engage Vthe other member of the razor to locate the latter in shaving position on the blade.
ll. A safety razor comprising a guard with marginal teeth, a cap, an interposed blade, and an adapter having blade-locating means and downturned edges arranged to engage the teeth of the guard, and a long slot in each downturned edge disposed adjacent to the guard teeth.
