Description

S. S. EGGER-HANSEN PRICE SCALES Sept. 20; 1932 Filed June 29. 1926 v 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 5 57 9er- Hansen mvenior' 717% vg Patented Sept. 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE I SIMON SIEGFRIED BIGGER-HANSEN, OF VIENNA, AUSTRIA, ASSIGNOR '1'0 EGGER-HAN- SENS I NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHA]? TERDAM, NETHERLANDS TOT EXPLOITATIE VAN OCTROOIEN, OFBOT PRICE SCALES Application filed June 29, 1926, Serial No. 119,443, and in Austria July 16, 1925.
This invention relates to a device for indicating the. price, which can be fitted to scales already in use or can be built into new scales and which renders visible at both sides of the scale the weight of the article put on the scales and the purchase-price corresponding to the indicated weightand the set baseprice.
The known price-indicating devices, which are visible at both sides, have the drawback, that it is not possible to read off the prices for each partof the weight and for each baseprice, because the arrangement of all products of the parts of the weight for any desired base-price would necessitate an indicating device of an impossibly large size. Therefore up to now in the arrangements with a cyllndrical indicating drum or with scale-or dial strips the price is indicated only for a limited number of kilogramme-base prices, for 1nstance only for each fifth or tenth weightmark on the dial, while prices between these weights-marks have to be determined by calculation.
" According to the present invention these drawbacks are removed by guiding the dial strip and positioning the figures in a quite novelnianner, whereby it is possible to make the device of smallslze and render clearly visible at both sides of the device the prices for each weight of any desired base-price and thus produce price-scales, which satisfy all requirements.
A strip, band or tape, secured to two oppositely disposed rollers and passed over the same in the shape of a S-loop in such amannor that it can be wound up and oil and furnished at both sides with suitable like figure-columns, is positively operated by setting any desired base-price with the aid of a suitable chain-drive, wheel-drive or by a combination of both kinds of drives in such a manner, that the product resulting from the adjusted base-price and the indicated weight, thus the buying or selling price of the weighed article, is visible automatically at both sides in corresponding sections.
Two modes of carrying out the present invention are illustrated by way of example on the accompanying sheets of drawings in which Fig. 1 shows the device in front view partly in section, and
Fig. 2 illustrates the band and guide-rollers in cross-section.
Figs. 3 and 4 show a modified embodiment according to the present invention.
In'the construction illustrated in Fi 1 and 2, a band a, which is provided at 0th sides with the products of the weights (from 1 alloy to 100 ding) with the basic prices (from 1 cent to 100 cents) passes over and is secured to two rollers a and b, the said band being fed in the shape of an inverted S-loop and can be wound up and off on the said rollers.
Toothed wheels 2', is, 2' Z, m, n, .0, p, mounted on shafts d, e, f, g, h, are positively connected with one another at suitable ratios by means of driving chains 9, 1', 8, t, so thatby the operation of the handles to and '0, which are mounted on the chains (bands) 8 and t, those product-columns are automatically set for z, 2 z, z, z serve for tensioning the band behind the windows and render possible a fiat indicating area of suitable size.
Example :If the selling price for 1 kilogramme, thus the base-price of an article, amounts to $3.20, the handle u has to be adjusted on the setting or adjusting chain to the Figure 3 and the handle 1: has to be shifted on the adjusting to the Figure 2. In consequence of the positive operation caused thereby, the rollers a and b are adjusted in such a manner, that in the weight scale opening appears the number 320 and in the other window all products of 320 with the ordinary figure-system, thus in the elongation of the weight-pointer there appears at the corresponding place in the window the product resulting base-price 320, e. g. the purchaslng price.
om the indicated weight and the changing the A re-settin to zero is not necessary when ase-price, because the arrangement permits of the desired adjustment of the two handles either up or down to the required figure value of the base-price. The band cannot break owing to the arrangement of a suitable locking device.
In the construction illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4, two bands 10, 10 are employed, each band being provided at one side with the products of the weights (from 1 dkg to 100 dkg) and the basic prices (from 1- cent to 100) Each band passes over and is secured to two pairs of rollers 11, 11' and 12, 12 respectively and can be wound on and off of said rollers, the said bands passing over tensioning rollers 13, 13, 14, 14' respectively, and offering a plain reading surface of sufliciently large size.
These pairs of rollers are adjustable in a suitable ratio by means of the toothed wheels 15, 16 and 17 and by the driving chain 18 passing over the ratio-wheel 19 and over the driving wheel 20, so that on actuating the handle 21 mounted on the wheel 20, the pairs of rollers and their product-columns for each desired base-price are set which now becomes automatically visible at both sides in the opening kg. The products of the weights in the window 80', corresponding to the baseprice in kilogrammes now adjusted, may be indicated by suitable means, such as an adjustable pointer 22 cooperating with the scale 23.
It is not necessary to fit the described priceindicator in a scale or to mount the same on a scale, it can be used as an independent rice-indicating device for any desired scales, 1f the same is disposed at the side of the lat .ter. In this case the same is provided with weight-dials above or below the two sections at which the price is visible. In this event,
afer setting the base-price, that number indlcates the sellingprice, corresponding to an indicia carrying band having its end portions wound on said drums, respectively, for ad'ustment by rotation of said drums to have di erent portions thereof exposed to view through said window, a band adjusting device in the form of an endless chain operatively connected with said drums and movable a predetermined amount to impart a said first mentioned chain and operable through the latter to impart fractional adjustments to said scale.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
