This invention relates to suction cleaners in general and particularly to dust bags for suction cleaners.

The invention consists in the novel construction of a substantially soft and open filtering material which normally lacks sufii-- cient tensile strength to stand up under ordinary usage but which has excellent filtering qualities for separating dust from air.

The object of the invention is to provide a bag made from a substantially fragile but highly eflicient filtering material, which is provided with novel means of reinforcement to take up the stretch and strain normally placed on the bag due to its connection with the cleaner 0 crating handle. 1

Another 0 ject is to provide a dust bag made from a soft and substantially open filtering material which is reinforced lon itudinally thereof by strips which extend su stantially from the neck of the bag to the upper, end thereof.

Another object is to provide a substantially orous filtering medium which is reinforced y longitudinal strips, andwhich is also rovided ith additional reinforcing at the ot-- tom and upper end of the bag where the greatest'pull and stress occurs. I p

Another object is to provide a cotton felt dust bag which is reinforced longitudinally thereof by means of paper strips; which 1s reinforced at its throat by a paper patch, and also which has a paper reinforcement at the upper or open end thereof where the closing clip is attached to the bag securing the bag to the cleaner handle.

The invention comprises, in general, a dust bag made of an open filter material such as cotton felt and which has strips of paper applied to the bag parallel with the longitudinal axis thereof. The bag also has a reinforced patch at its throat to takeup the wear where the bag may touch the fioor when the sweeper is being used under low places or articlesof' furniture. plied at the upper open end of the bag so that the bag may be easily emptied if desired.

The patch at the upper end reinforces the bag and equally distributes any strainwhich may occur, to the longitudinalreinforcing membersand the reinforced throat.

Referring to the drawing, 5 designates generally a neck or discharge outlet of a suction cleaner to which bag clamping means 6 are operatively arranged for securing'the neck 7 of the dust bag 8' to the outlet 5. The bag proper is preferably made from a cotton felt material 9 and a plurality of longitudinal paper strips 10 may be suitably secured to the cotton felt to reinforce the bag.

These strips run from the neck? to the upper end 11 of the bag so that all strains occurring on the bag due to operating the cleaner, will be transmitted to the reinforcing stri s. Another atch 17 is provided at the upper end of the ag so that the direct pull which occurs at the upper end of the bag will be transmitted along the longitudinal reinforcing strips 10. A bag of this type has sufiicient strength to stand up under ordinary usage and at the same time permits the use of cotton felt which provides one of the best filtering mediums known..

The bag may be folded along the creases 18 shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1 so that durlines described a great many portions extending substantially the full length of the bag and connecting said other portions.
