DUST COLLECTING BAG FOR VACUUM SWEEPERS Filed Oct. 1, 1929 INVENTOR. 5 7*MM/0ERW/4 7 A TTORNE YS.
Patented Oct. 13, 1931 PATENT OFFICE BERT VANDERWILT, OF EVERETT, WASHINGTON DUST COLLECTING BAG FOR VACUUM SWEEPERS Application filed October 1, 1929. Serial No. 396,515.
My invention relates to improvements in dust collecting bags for vacuum sweepers, and it consists in the combinations, constructions and, arrangements hereinafter described 5 and claimed. 4
The purpose of this invention is to eliminate the objectionable and filthy feature of cleaning the dirt and solids from the bag which is used to collect the dirt in devices such as vacuum cleaners, cleaners, sanding machines, planers, saws, stone polishers, etc. The dirt and solids are collected in a separate collecting bag which is removable and which may be thrown away, thus obviating one thrown away. I provide novel means for pprmitting the full bag to be tied into a'pac age upon removal from the largebag, whereupon it may be burned or otherwise disposed ofz A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the type described which is extremely simple in construction and which is durable and eflicient for the purpose intended.
Other objects and advantages will appear as the specification proceeds, and'the novel features will be particularly pointed out in the claims hereto attached. K
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which: I 3
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a vacuum cleaner employing my invention, 7
Figure 2 is a section along the line 2-2 of Figure 1,
Figure3- is a section along the line 3-3 of 'Fi re2,and
igure 4 is a perspective view of one of the refuse bags. 7
' In carrying out my invention, Imake use of a vacuum sweeper indicated generally at 1. A dirt conveying conduit 2'leads from the sweeper 1 and enters a main bag 3. In
Figure 3 I show the conduit or'tube 2- as having a collapsible end 4. This end closes the upper end of the tube 2. when the sweeper stops functioning. This prevents the dirt and solids from falling back into the tube andbeing conveyed back into the blower in the shaking of the main dust bag which is .now the practice. A new bag replaces the terial.
main bag 3 by means of the tube 2. The
neck of the refuse bag is held open by a fiber collar 9 disposed in the outlet 6.
It will be seen from Figure 1 that the lower portion of the main bag 3 may be opened in order to gain access to the refuse or collectmg; bag 5. I have shown azipper 10 for closing and opening the portion of the main bag disposed adjacent to the refuse bag 5.
From the foregoing description of the various parts of the device, the operation thereof may be readily understood. I
A collecting bag 5 is secured to the outlet 6 by the string 8, and the device is ready for use. A good part of the dirt collected in the main bag 3 will drop into the refuse bag 5.
, In removing the bag 5, the operator opens the-lower portion of the main bag 3 by means of the zipper 10 and then shakes the main ba 3 for causing all of-the dirt to enter the re use bag. The string 8 may now be untied 80.
in order to remove the refuse bag and then means of the same string if desired, as shown in Figure 4:. I
A new collecting bag 5 is secured to the outlet 6 by strings 8, and the machine is ready for further use. It will be seen that the shaking of the bag in the open air is obviated, nd there is no muss in handling the refuse bag 5 because it is made-of a non-porous ma- The device is extremely simple in construction, and can be adapted to uses other than for vacuum sweepers.
Although I have shown and describedone 95 embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood .that the same is susceptible of various changes, and I reserve the right to employ such changes as may come within the scope of the invention as claimed. 10
I claim: 1. In combination, a dust collecting bag, a conical-shaped partition disposed in said bag, a non-porous refuse bag removably secured a to the open end of the partition for receiving dirt from the main bag, a conduit for delivering dirt to the main bag at a point above the partition, said conduithaving a flexible end portion extending above the artition, and w means for opening the main agbelow the a partition for gaining access to the non-porous ag. t 2. In combination, a'dust collecting bag,
conical-shaped partition disposed in said bag, a refuse bag removably secured to the open end of the partition for receiving dirt from the main bag, a conduit for delivering dirt to the main bag at a point above the partition, said conduit having a flexible end portion extending above the partition, and means for opening the main bag below the partition for gaining access to the non-porous bag.
3. In combination, a main bag, a partition disposed in the bag, a dirt conveying conduit for conveying material above the partition, and a refuse bag removably secured to the outlet end of the partition, said conduit having a flexibleend portion extending above the partition. BERT VANDERWILT.
