Description

w. WEAVER. v PLOW-HANDLE urs, N o.18 7, 684 Paten ted Feb.20,1877.
WITNESSES INVENTOR.
\ WM w m ATTORNEYS,
UNITED STATES WILLIAM WEAVER, OF HAVANA, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO GEORGE S. WEAVER, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT lN PLOW-HANDLE TIPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 187,684, dated February 20, 1877; application filed I August 5, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM WEAVER, of Havana, in the county of Schuyler and State of New York, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Plow-Handle Tips; and I do hereby declare .that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a face view of the section of my plowhandle containing lugs. Fig. 2 is a bottom View of my plow-handle tip; and Fig. 3 is a bottom view of the section containing the lugs.
This invention relates to metal tips for straight plow-handles; and it consists in constructing said tips in two parts, which are accurately fitted and tightly bolted together, substantially as hereinafter set forth.
In the annexed drawings, A and A designate two longitudinal sections, which, together, constitute a'curved metal plow-handle tip. The use of such tips is to obviate the necessity of bending the handles, as these tips may be attached to the tops of straight handles, their own curvature affording the necessary grasp for the plow'mans hands. Section A is provided with inner upwardlyextending lugs a a a a which are arranged in pairs on the opposite sides of said section near its front and rear, and operate to prevent the said sections from sliding vertically of two witnesses.
past one another. Said section is also provided with a tooth, 0. which sets into a recess ofsimilar shape in section A, and prevents said sections from sliding longitudinally past each other. Said sections are fastened together by bolts A and are provided with flaring lips A A perforated at a a which form sockets for the reception of the upper end of the straight handle, which is fastened therein by bolts passing through said perforations.
This construction has several advantages. In case the plow-handle is broken, the fragment remaining in the hollow tip is easily dislodged. If one side or section of the-handle is injured in any, way the remaining section may still be used with another corresponding one. The sections may be separated and cleaned, so as to prevent the hollow tip from becoming foul and rotting the upper end of the plowhandle.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The hollow section A, having lugs a a tooth a and the flaring lip A in combinationwith the hollow section A recessed to receive the tooth a and provided with the flaring lip A substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereuntosubscribed my name in the presence WILLIAM WEAVER.
Witnesses:
GEo. S. WEAVER, CHARLES A. TRACY.
