SCRAPER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 327,794, dated October 6, 1885.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, WILLIAM HASLUP, of

Sidney, in the county of Shelby and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scrapers, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a drag-scraper.

The object of my invention is, first, to obtain ascraper made of a single piece; second, to obtain a scoop shape, avoiding corners or places for the dirt to stick; and, third, to obtain a scraper with an inclined back, and of concave or curved lines, formed of a single piece of metal, all of which will be fully set forth in the description of the accompanying drawings, forming apart of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved scraper; Fig. 2, the blank sheet of metal with sides bent, and Fig. 3 a blank from which the scraper is made; Fig. 4, a central vertical cross-section.

The third step consists in bending up the back so as to have the sides 0 d lap against the sides a b, as shown in Fig. 1. By riveting or bolting the sides a b to the laps c d the scraper is held in position. The lines formed in bending are of concave or curved form, and when the laps are riveted or bolted together form a very stiff as well as a light and cheap scraper. By thus bending the sides and back, corners are avoided and the scraper fills and empties easily. The form 01 notching the back and sides together is shown in Fig. l.

C represents a W-shaped clamp-bolt, which is inserted through holes pierced in the laps c a b d.

D represents a clamp-bar, which, wit-h the clamp-bolt 0, forms a socket or band for the handle E.

F represents a similar clamp for holding the inner end of the handle.

H represents the bail attached to the sides in the ordinary way.

It will be observed by reference to Fig. 2 that the sides 0 c arebent up in proper shape to have those corners form inside laps of the sides, and when the back is bent, as shown in Fig. 3, it makes round or curved corners, and forms an inclined back.

Having described my invention, what I de sire to secure by Letters Patent is- 1. A scraper made from a single piece 0: metal formed with cuts 1 and 2, to form an extension, 4, said extension being bent upward 1y to form an inclined back,and its ends turnec' inwardly to form curved corners inside of the scraper, substantially as described.

2. A scraper made from a single piece 0 metal cut to form an extension, 4, said exten sion being bent up to form an inclined back, and having its ends turned inwardly to four rounded corners, and lapped over the sidesb and secured thereto by bolts 0, having bar: D connected to their other ends to form han dle-clamps, substantially as described.
