This invention relates to an improved slide used principally on garments. The slide is used for holding a strap that is looped beyond the slide for supporting a button loop or the like. The slide is quickly adjusted to change the length of the looped part of the strap.
The object of the invention is to provide a slide that includes a clipto receive the end of the strap to secure the strap without looping or stitching and thus not onlymake a more secure and neater fastening but to save material of which the strap is made.
Another feature of the invention is the construction of the clip to provide a set of projections at the centre of the slide for preventing lateral bunching of the strap and to extend a distance to allow a press to be used on the clip Without affecting or distorting the rest of the slide.
The slide as a unitary device needs no other manipulation than merely threading the strap through the slid-e and then punching the clip to fasten the end of the strap.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a sec tion of the improved slide before it is provided with a strap. Figure 2 is an end View of the slide attached to a strap. Figure 3 is a rear View of the showing in Figure 2. Figure 4 is a section of a modified form with the clip in elevation. Figure 5 is a back view of the clip shown in Figure 4. Figure 6 is a side view of a modification.
The slide comprises a frame which can be made in many various forms but I prefer to make the frame of wire bent to form top and bottom strands 10 and 11 respectively and a central strand 12. These strands are substantially parallel and lie in substantially the same plane. The frame is placed on a strap 13 which is threaded behind the top and bottom strands and in front of the central strand and is then folded back to form a loop 14 to receive a button loop or the like. The end 15 of the strap is fastened to the slide.
For securing the end of the strap I provide a clip formed of sheet metal. The clip is provided with a loop or loops 16 which embrace the central strand 12 and the clip extends down beyond the lower strand 11 in the form of aplate 17. Themetal'is then formed by a return bend to provide the additionalthickness 18 and by another return bend 19 is extended as a flaring or inclined wall orjaw 20. Fastening means such as the prongs 21 are struck up from the wall 'or jaw 20and enters the material of the strap when the jaws 18 and 20 are punchedlor pressed together with. the end of the strap between A modified form is shown in Figures 4: and 5 inwhich the'clip is formed of a sheet of metal bent to form loops 22 and thenex tending downwardly in the form of two opposed plates 23 and 24. The loops 22 are joined to the plate 23 by an offset part 25 which allows the plates to hang substantial- 1y parallel with the plane of the frame 26 which is shown in these figures as made of round wire.
The teeth 27 are struck up from the plate 23 and passed through the strap and through the'holes 28 and then bent over and again forced into the strap through the holes 29.-
The loops 16 and 22 are spaced to provide projections on which the strap 13 presses and the strap is thus held flat and straight and does not ride over or bunch at one side of slide.
With this slide the end 15 of the strap is placed in the open jaws 18 and 20 and then the jaws are pressed together, usually by a power press. The grasping part of the clip is below the frame and the pressure is entirely outside the dimensions of the WOW frame and the frame is not distorted in the pressing operation.
In Figure 6, I show a modification on the clip from the front and all of the slide except the end strands. This will be understood from Figure 3 which is a rear view and shows all these associated parts exposed.
This adds greatly to the appearance of a garment on which the article is used.
By this article much time and considerable material at the end of the strap is saved.
I claim:
1. A slide comprising a frame having three substantially parallel strands between which a strap is adapted to be threaded and a clip of sheet metal secured by a looped part to the central strand and having its end projecting beyond an outer strand and provided at said end with means for securing it to the end of the strap previously threaded through the frame. 1
2. A slide comprising a frame having three substantially parallel strands and :a sheet metal clip having a looped end attaching it to the central strand and bent to one side of. the plane of the clip and having its other end including vflared walls to receive the end of strap and lying outside the dimensions of theframe.
3. In a slide, a sheet ,metal clip comprising a looped part at "one end and a return bend at the other end which terminates in a second return bend forming a pair of jaws for receiving the end of strap.
